Is the world going crazy!? Tensions are heating up between the US and China once again over the disputed artificial islands China is building in the S. China Sea. The Chinese are saying that they are prepared to use military force if anyone comes so much as 12 miles to the islands. Meanwhile, the US is saying that they won't recognize artificial islands.

China will not tolerate U.S. violations

On Thursday, Chinese media slammed the U.S. for its “ceaseless provocations.” The Global Times, a mouthpiece of the Communist Party, said in an editorial that China will not “tolerate rampant U.S. violations” of its territorial waters and skies over the “expanding islands.” Tensions have mounted between the two world powers since China started transforming submerged reefs into artificial islands in the disputed waters.

The artificial islands are large enough to support military facilities. The U.S. says Chinese activities in the disputed waters threaten freedom of navigation. Brunei, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Taiwan have overlapping claims in the waters over which China claims full sovereignty. U.S. has responded by telling its Asian allies that it doesn’t recognize artificial islands, and will sail warships past disputed islands.

Russia is making its move in the Middle East and the rest of the World which is at odds with the US is acting accordingly per Russia's move(s). Palestine, Iran, and China are more vocal. Not to mention Saudi Arabia and Turkey are getting inflamed at Russia over Syria. What says ATS?

Against the U.S. Navy? That would be a whole lot of stupid lol. When Mike Tyson walks down your street you dont walk out and try to piss him off do you? That would be about the same stupidity. China would be wiped out in 24 hours, that is a Russian military opinion by the way.

With the current potus we do not stand a chance in the US.
Obamy can't get his cabinet together let alone defend the US.
I looks like a huge poop sandwich and we all get a bite of it.
Some think we are untouchable but that is not true.

I suppose with the world economy not doing so well and high unemployment it must be getting time to thin the herd..

Stupid reason for people to die over a bunch of recently created Islands ....

I personally think China is making a mistake and if they force the issue..... Obama might talk sternly to them or god forbid, sic Michelle on their school lunch programs...now that would fixem !

Dear U.S.,

Don't be stupid and mess with BRICS. Keep to yourselves.

There're 3 billion people part of the BRICS nations, with 3 of the top 10 militaries. Yes, U.S. military and all of your military alliances could beat them, but at what cost? Total war.

In fact the war would have to be nuclear to be effective against the U.S. Both U.S. and RU have unstoppable, UN.STOPPABLE underwater missiles capable of destroying ENTIRE NAVAL FLEETS.

Anyway, don't mess with BRICS. Focus on improving America.

Sincerely,

Agricultural, self sufficient hopeful U.S. citizen

Not too worried. They can call US "bluff" all they want, but if it came down to it, the US would lay waste to the entire operation, likely in a single day. It would be like Pearl Harbor basically. A few well placed bombs and the artificial islands would sink back to where they were birthed from.

The problem started during the mid-1990s, which means the U.S. had not acted for almost two decades.

Depends. With a bully in the backyards it's just a question of time that tensions rise, doesn't matter who we are up to perceive as the bully in this scenario though.

Dare to find out how bad the Chinese arsenal really is? Hmm...

Why do the leaders of the US think the only solution to every problem is to exert military force? China is on the defensive, defending their coastline.

This problem has nothing to do with the US. Sure there could be some impact on our allies, but China is realistically only concerned about military presence.

I have a two part solutions.

The first part, a diplomatic solution involving all nations surrounding the South China Sea and including defining military presence.

The second part, weapons have advanced much since boundaries were drawn. Maybe the right thing to do is reconsider ocean boundaries, and have nations that share waterways create demilitarized zones to protect all affected nations.

There must be a diplomatic solution. Only a moron would push for any military solution involving the US and China. Now is not the time to flex military muscle, now is time for negotiations. There are no winners in a global war.

Do we really need to send warships to provoke China?

Provoke China? China actively attacks our allies in the area and makes wild claims. China is the one provoking others.

BS! They're not defending their coastline, what a crock.
China is trying to claim territorial control so far from their coastline that it may as well be considered territorial invasion by their neighbors.
Look at a damn map as to where the Spratly Islands are, no where near China's coastline.
The chicomms need to back the %^$$^ up.

K~

Hey do we still keep Neutron Warheads? Anybody know?

China refuses. Philippines is in court right now doing just that. China says the court has no power, they won't participate, and will not recognize the ruling.

China cannot accept the international arbitration sought by the Philippines, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said yesterday in a statement on the ministry’s website.

Chinese ships used water cannons in January to drive Filipino fishermen away from the Scarborough Shoal, the Philippine military said on Feb. 24. China warned off two Philippine boats near the Second Thomas Shoal early this month, its Foreign Ministry said on March 10.

“China’s refusal to join the arbitration will cost it both from a legal standpoint and public-opinion view,” Casiple said. “It will be viewed by the global community as a rogue state that doesn’t recognize international law.”

I don't know, but China directly warning US is a cause for concern.

Heck the US of A got alot on it's plate trying to come to terms with the Kremlin over Syria.

Please don't remind me of Iran and NK openningly warning the US.

Crazy times indeed.

No, it's a fact. The US Navy could go head to head with basically every other navy in the world, at the same time. Tell me what Navy you think the Chinese possess that can have any chance of success? The US is not the Philippines using WW2 era ships.

The U.S. has 19 aircraft carriers, compared to the rest of the world's 12 aircraft carriers combined. The U.S. carriers are also larger and more technically advanced than any others.

China's sole carrier, for instance, is a retrofitted Ukrainian carrier from the Soviet Union that was originally supposed to be an off-shore casino.

And China has a lot of economical problems, dissent at home, and is openly aggressive to every single neighbor they have.

Are you telling me the US is free of econimical problems as well?

Whichever way you see it, it is a cause for concern for the US, nobody wants war with China.

All US needs to do is stay aware from China's affairs.

Since the US has shown it has a tendency to mingle with other foreign countries affairs.

It's just not worth intimadating China.
