Too Young

So small, barely aware of who she is,
She is way too young, to deal with this.
Her eyes are confused and questioning,
Why is she here, getting tests and things?

Scared of all the people, and the noise,
She holds on tight, to her favorite toy,
Demanding that her mom, stays with her,
Won't go alone, with the nurse, anywhere.

Lying in a hospital bed, three times her size,
She looks at her mom, tears fill her eyes.
She doesn't understand, what she did wrong,
And why she has tubes, stuck in her arm.

I'll be good, I promise, don't leave me here!
She says as her mommy, wipes away her tears.
She reaches out her arms, fully expecting you,
To take her into yours, like you normally do.

You heart is aching, you lay with her in bed,
You want to cry too, but you sing softly instead,
Whispering to her, as she finally closes her eyes,
I'll always be here, Little One, right by your side.

Thanks,
