I am really tired of the BS accusations that I love Republicans because I don't like Democrats. Frankly, my politics are somewhere in the middle and more like social moderate and fiscal conservative.

I don't like Republicans because they are backwards, hypocritical liars. I don't like Democrats because they are Socialist, hypocritical liars.

I realize that I come off more against Democrats and I can tell you exactly why. First, I am extremely pro-2nd amendment and I can't stand the anti-gun folks that tend to be Dems. Secondly, I can't stand Socialism and this is becoming more and more ingrained in the Democratic platform.

I am not going to argue the virtues of Socialism because it is opposed to my personal philosophy of hard work and personal responsibility. I don't need the Feds to take care of me. You won't convert me so don't bother.

Why am I easier on Republicans? Because I don't have to get an abortion or a gay marriage. This doesn't mean I don't support marriage equality it just doesn't affect me personally like the gun grabbers do so I care less about something that doesn't affect me. This is human nature and I am human so deal with it or don't.

I still think Libertarians make the most sense because I am all about more freedom, less government and no wars which is the primary mantra of Libertarians. I don't like being messed with and both Democrats and Republicans are always poking their nose in my business. Libertarians are pro-everything and leave people alone. This appeals to me.

I suspect most of you here don't 100% agree with Republicans or Democrats. We are all more than a binary partisan (at least I hope so). So, do me the favor of not assuming I am for the death penalty (I am not) or whatever else. Assuming things about me pisses me off. I imagine it pisses you off when people assume about you as well. I also realize we are going to have SOME Socialism regardless of what I think. I can deal with it, but still want to minimize its impact on me and my family.

The bottom line? I am against Government meddling in my life and the lives of others. I care more about issues that affect me than ones that affect you. I am disgusted by both of the mainstream political parties I just hate Democrats more right now because of Socialism and gun grabbing. I also don't identify with Atheism and immorality like selling dead human parts. That doesn't mean I am for Republicans bombing people all over the globe or telling people they have to worship a Christian religion. I just find them less annoying right now.

Thank you for reading and I hope you don't take anything personally. I just don't like having assumptions made about me and don't like being meddled with by some jerk in Washington that I have never met.

Shhhh....stop making sense. The media needs outrage, confirmation bias and righteous indignation to sell crap during commercial breaks when the "news" is on the telly.

Primary mantra of anyone who can think logically.

Honestly the only reason I cut republicans any slack is because they want me to keep more of my money.

Otherwise they can both run off a cliff and take the rest of the lemmings with them.

Exactly. I think Republicans suck less, but that doesn't mean I like them. I just REALLY dislike Democrats.

Agreed.

I've gathered that from your posts. I've also starred a lot of them.

You can be against one side without being for the other. Something the two party system likes to ignore.

Most reasonable people on the left are not protesting for an outright ban, sure some people are. I don't generalize an entire group because a small amount of the groups population spouts some radical dogma, so neither should you. Seriously no one wants your firearms. If we lived in an ideal world we wouldn't have firearms in the first place. Since we don't, further background checks and restrictions to keep firearms out of the hands of the mentally unstable is the best protective measure to prevent more firearm related incidents. If that infringes on the "freedoms" of some Americans, sorry but sometimes sacrifices have to be made in a bipartisan compromise as I don't see this being done with out the approval of either side of the spectrum. Don't even get me started on your misrepresentation of atheism which has nothing to do with morality...Where do you get this idea that religion owns the rights to proper objective morality and ethics?

Good to know, but I don't believe in unicorns. Until I see one for myself I will assume these mythical "reasonable people on the left" are just rumor.

Totally agree with you Metallicus.

As someone who is socially liberal and fiscally conservative I find being a Libertarian is the only option for me.

I tend to view both parties, and therefore the majority of politicians, with disdain. I find them to be equally hypocritical and not at all concerned with the welfare of the country. They just pander to the fringe and then, once that vote is secure, pander even harder to the middle.

I've been here less than 2 months and have been accused of being a conservative republican simply because I don't buy into the man made global warming. Frankly, I don't think I'll even be voting. About the only candidates I can stand are the ones that aren't politicians.
My philosophy is that most of what is talked about is none of anyone's business to begin with. Be it religion, gays, education, what your worth.

I have high hopes that people are realizing that our bipartisan duopoly is a lose-lose for the American people between two interventionist (if not unapologetic socialist) camps.

The Harvest of Interventionism

THE interventionist policies as practiced for many decades by all governments of the capitalistic West have brought about all those effects which the economists predicted. There are wars and civil wars, ruthless oppression of the masses by clusters of self-appointed dictators, economic depressions, mass unemployment, capital consumption, famines.

However, it is not these catastrophic events which have led to the crisis of interventionism. The interventionist doctrinaires and their followers explain all these undesired consequences as the unavoidable features of capitalism. As they see it, it is precisely these disasters that clearly demonstrate the necessity of intensifying interventionism. The failures of the interventionist policies do not in the least impair the popularity of the implied doctrine. They are so interpreted as to strengthen, not to lessen, the prestige of these teachings. As a vicious economic theory cannot be simply refuted by historical experience, the interventionist propagandists have been able to go on in spite of all the havoc they have spread.

Yet the age of interventionism is reaching its end. Interventionism has exhausted all its potentialities and must disappear.

Men must choose between the market economy and socialism. They cannot evade deciding between these alternatives by adopting a "middle-of-the-road" position, whatever name they may give to it.

In abolishing economic calculation the general adoption of socialism would result in complete chaos and the disintegration of social cooperation under the division of labor.

-Ludwig von Mises (1949)

That happens when someone makes sense. You might want to try it.
