you are throwing everyone that struggles to not go hungry and homeless under the bus and trying to redeem yourself by doing charity. its a very strange way of thinking. basically, let everyone become poor then give very little back, to the poor. i dont think you can understand what is actually going on,

What happened to 2nd and 3rd jobs to make ends meet? Why is my financial decisions and my use of cigarettes, my having 4 children, single parenthod , and my liking to go gamble in Vegas the responsibility of my boss? Why are employers responsible for the lifestles of employees. My poor life decisions are mine alone.

Here`s what I don`t understand, exactly what is it that the stockholders do at Walmart? that`s right they don`t work at Walmart they sit back collecting profits from Walmart. so, Walmart can`t pay their workers more money because then the people who don`t even work for Walmart won`t make enough profits.

I don`t care if the stock holders are doctors or retired people or whoever, the stockholders aren`t doing me any good if I go to Walmart to buy something and the shelves are bare because there is nobody working there stocking the shelves.
Without the workers there will be no profits for the stockholders to mooch off of.
Walmart can survive without stockholders but they can`t survive without workers.

If the stockholders want to make more money why don`t THEY get a better education and a better paying job? instead of mooching money off the hard work of others?

Today Wal-mart stock was absolutely clobbered as the CEO finally quantified what the $10 wage hike would do to his company and to shareholders. Wal-mart stock holders lost over 20 billion in market cap today which ended up hurting retirees, employees with 401-ks and people investing for their future.

This is just one more step in what is coming in the new gimme gimme economy as the self-described disenfranchised generation takes from those that work hard and save for their own retirement and destroy the existing economy to usher in a new age of Government taking care of us.

This is a sad day for those that have been playing by the existing rules and a win for the do-nothing Communists that are now trying to steal wealth from everyday Americans.

You must mean those damned lazy people who are working two jobs to feed their family!
Those poor wealthy haves might have a bit less!
Tough!
WalMart makes about $20million$ profit every hour!
Tough crackers on the parasites who grow fat on the slave labor of the people!
Screw 'em!

You mean those "wealthy"haves like my folks who have a very small retirement investment account the depend onto help flesh out their SS?

No one is talking about folks that have small retirement accounts to flesh out their SS, you do actually realize that if you make that kind of "LITTLE" money, 70K is non taxable, I had a client make 105K last year in retirement, and not pay a dime in taxes.

But people like them comprise the shareholders. Ever scream "Eff the shareholders?", but if you own stock in any account, odds are you are a shareholder of some sort then you are yelling to screw yourself, not mainly rich guys like Buffet.

I have never been an F the shareholder kind of guy, but a shareholder in any company is a speculator, they are betting that the stock is going to rise in price or they are going to gain a dividend, maybe both, that would be the goal. The problem lies when a company dismisses, or treats employees poorly to meet their shareholders expectations. I am not an anti-capitalist, just think the corporate mindset in the world has gotten a bit greedy. Not to mention all of those brokers that made commissions on trades, whether their clients made or lost money, they don't give a crap, just make them trades.

Is the implication here that everyone that is in poverty has made poor life decisions?

Or are you just talking about you here.

its all about eliminating poverty. if you pay everyone more, then everyone will buy more and big businesses will make even more money. thats basic economics. you shouldn't feel proud for working like some farm animal, we need to get rid of this working class hero mentality and learn how to enjoy life, because its short.

you think your boss likes working like a donkey? did he tell you that? well then i have a bridge to sell you.

I"m still stuck on the idea that the people who are working at wal mart aren't working hard. the people at wal mart, who, by the way were earning more than I was as a screen printer, and I was hauling around pallets with a ton of magnatic stock on them before I hurt my foot.
I've seen wal mart workers pushing a long line of shopping carts back to the doorways a few time... and well, ya know what...
I bet it takes more energy to push those danged carts than it does to push folders across a danged desk, or even file them in a nearby file cabinet.
And, I am pretty sure that it took a heck of alot more energy to haul those danged sheets of magnetic stock than it does to push those folders! or sit all day and type on a keyboard. heck we got one store in our area that can't even pay the low wages it seems without gov't subsidization, one worker is ringing up the groceries with just one arm, and many of them are mentally disabled.

as far as going out and getting training, going to school, ect....
sorry, but maybe you should go around one day and ask some of those low wage workers just how much they owe in student loans!!

No, I want people to do what they used to do...get training and work hard to get better jobs and wages. My first job was with a used lawn mower and going door to door to get business. These days you can't get the lazy kids away from their video games long enough to go outside their front door.

That same freaking company, along with IBM and a few others, destroyed those middle-level jobs you once aspired to. On purpose. They had a plan. And meetings. They didn't invest in this country's future...they pissed on it and pissed it away.

So wah wah wah poor Walmart getting destroyed, Cry me a river. This economy will bounce back, is bouncing back, and when it does, the first place people will stop shopping is that place with its cheap junk, deplorable practices, and greed. Walmart''ll be doing more than wah-ing then...nd probably be crying out for more government life support.

Karma sucks sometimes.

the only time you look in your neighbor's bowl is to make sure they have enough. why resent someone for not breaking their backs every day? they're probably happier that you and you keep building the hate.

People are worth exactly what they earn.

That is the beauty of Capitalism.

You have no heart, my friend, and have highlighted the very basic problem with capitalism. It's all about the Benjamins and damn the humans that help make em.

So when I am donating my time and money to charity and local programs I have no heart? That makes no sense.

There are a lot of really worthless places (501c3's) out there to donate time and money too, AND TAKE A TAX DEDUCTION, why don't you expand on the things you find really important.

Wal-mart Stock Plummets

Takes from those who work hard? What is there to take when you barley make enough to survive?

This 20 billion dollars wasn't redistributed it just went poof into nothingness. All we are doing is destroying wealth and American companies. The proof is right there in front of you.

You can't pay unskilled people who aren't interested in bettering themselves more than they are worth unless you intend to destroy the economy.

Of course destroying the economy is the goal of these bottom feeders. They can't wait to have a world where every is poor and we rely on Government for our basic needs.

Pathetic.

It went poof into nothingness because it's not real currency, it's virtual numbers in a database.

Do we have to go up on the jobs ladder? I do good in my job it is what Iam best at.
I don't want to go into team leading because of paperwork and no time with my clients.
I guess I deserve to be poor eh?.
No matter I'm in the UK and we have a minimum wage rising every year until 2020 when it will be 9 quid an hour.

Ooops not for you Bubba pressed wrong button

What makes you think they aren't working and trying to save for retirement? What makes you think they haven't worked their entire life and are retired and living off the income of their retirement savings? Are you suggesting people should never be able to retire?

Walmart stocks were going to decline anyway all the rise of the minimum wage does is make it happen a bit sooner and people will sell now because it wont really ever go up again.

Walmart is a mega company because of "Mass Distribution"

3-D printing is in the infancy of being able to offer "Mass Customization" over the coming decade.

Walmart was bound to take a major tumble, having to pay a bit more in the meantime just marks the start of a trend that was coming soon regardless...

Everything has a peak people.... sheeesh.

Great, but you are trading one kind of happiness for another. If you are happy doing what you do and struggling with your bills that is a choice. If you choose to have more money and not struggle with bills then you might have to change what you do and contribute more. Either way it is YOUR choice.

Anyone can earn a living wage if they work for it.

You deserve to earn the wage you are working for, according to the needs/ability of your boss and the effort you put into your job.

Sweat shops. Those hard workers, as MM said, get screwed.

China is a good example of Marxism's Communist/Socialist failures.

What if I am happy with my job and what I make, and pay my bills and taxes, and still have my eyes open enough to recognize corporate greed? Are you?
