After 3 teens killed themselves in Florida after their Principle hypnotized them, the truth or lack of truth about hypnosis has been in the news with some people calling it dangerous to others saying it's BS.

I'm a Certified Hypnotherapist and NLP Specialist and hypnosis is far from BS and it works. I think the problem stems from the fact that hypnosis is used for entertainment and a lot of that is fake. There's things like Forensic Hypnosis where it's used to help catch criminals. Forensic Hypnosis has an 80% success rate.

I recently saw one case where there were people who saw the criminal who just committed a murder ride past them in his car but they couldn't give a good description of his face. Hypnosis was used and the witnesses described the criminal under hypnosis and they gave an accurate description, the sketch was put on the news and it led to his arrest.

Hypnosis is basically locking up and focusing your conscious mind while talking to and extracting information from your subconscious. In Hypnotherapy course you learn about the conscious filter that acts as a gatekeeper and only allows certain information to reach the conscious mind. This is what occurs with habits. You have subconscious triggers that produce a conscious response when they occur. So in hypnosis you try to change the response of these subconscious triggers.

Forms of hypnosis happen all the time. For instance, you can be driving on the highway deep in thought then you snap out of it so to speak and realize you're 3 exits past your exit. Driving has become an automatic response so while your consciousness is focused on whatever you're thinking about your subconscious is behind the wheel until you snap out of it.

They used to come to our hi school and hypnotize kids, making them perform like circus animals. It was very real, they still do it. Looking for suggestible types while they are still young, if you ask me.

It depends. I wouldn't suggest any you tube videos because there's a lot of nonsense out there but there are a few people on there who are very serious and give good advice. You just have to wade through all the muck.

Quitting smoking is a good example though. I know a Hypnotherapist that helped a guy quite smoking by anchoring a stronger desire to his trigger. He would get a little stressed then smoke to relax himself. He even had more desire to smoke at work where things were more stressful for him.

The Hypnotherapist put an anchor on that trigger which was him missing his daughter's Wedding because he died of cancer or him lying in the bed sick from cancer as his children visited him in the Hospital.

Overtime, his desire to be their for his kids was stronger than smoking a cigarette. So when that trigger happened and he had the urge to smoke a cigarette another image popped into his mind that was put their by the Hypnotherapist.

Things like this also depend on how suggestible you are. This is why Hypnotherapist do a suggestibility test before your session.

I have ASPD. None of those anchors would effect me at all :. Not sure how to proceed. Also, I'm very none suggestible for obvious distrust reasons (aspd)

This is unfortunate, Even if i wanted it to happen would it not work for someone like me?

In your personal and professional experience, have you been able to successfully hypnotize a sociopath?

Can NLP be sued to assist in retaining and working on a given computer program?
I had trouble trying to go to school I couldn't retain the instructions regarding Maya 3d software and I want to do so.

You are feeling sleepy. Very sleepy. You will no longer crave cigarettes. Very sleepy. Cigarettes bad. On the count of three, you will be awake, refreshed, and no longer have a desire to smoke. One, two. three.

You'll have to let me know how that works

I have a theory that they only allow suggestible politicians to rise to the top of western democracies...

There is good and bad hypnosis. The good is therapeutic and can help you overcome a variety of psychological issues. The bad can literally fragment a persons consciousness so they are left continually disassociated from reality, which can make them even easier to manipulate.

There is also self hypnosis, which can also be good or bad.

....

I've lost what I was talking about...

What about self hypnosis? Can it work?
Can you recommend some good source for info?
In what areas can you work with hypnosis?
I was also interested in hypnosis to quit smoking, but somehow all that I found on internet seemed fake and overpriced to me. Also I never tried it but I have a feeling I'm not easy to hypnotize.
S&F for an informative thread.

How would you have any idea if you are easy or difficult to hypnotize?
Oh, let me guess, you think stupid people are easy to hypnotize and intelligent people are difficult?

You can stop rolling your eyes now, I don't think that being suggestible to hypnosis has a lot to do with intelligence; but I think I'll keep my reasons for myself, if you don't mind.
And if you'll stop guessing things about people you don't know we both might have a chance to learn something new in this thread.
