ObamaCare Deductibles Keep on Soaring

As if Obama.Care insurance policies from the exchanges were "affordable".

The deductibles are the killer of the pocketbook as many people found out after actually buying them and getting subsidies and then after getting sick they get nailed with bills that the insurance won't cover.

Those golden Bronze Plans with the $5000 big "D" are about to go up to something like $6850 on the high end.

The farce continues. But afterall, the "Law" is the "Law".

ObamaCare Deductibles Keep on Soaring

Over the past year or so, I’ve expended considerable ink on the underreported problem of ObamaCare deductibles. What few people understand about insurance is that you don’t get a dime from the insurer until you pay the deductible amount out of pocket. Until then, you might as well not be covered. So, when people see low premiums and fancy coverage options, they could be getting sucked into what is actually a bad deal - a deductible they will never be able to reach.

This is the case with many of the lower-cost plans under ObamaCare. Last year, the bronze plans had an average deductible of around $5,000. This is hardly a boon for the poor, as people unable to afford the premiums of a silver or better plan are unlikely to have $5,000 lying around for medical expenses. For many people without any savings, $5,000 might as well be a million as far as they’re concerned. And yet federal law forces them to pay for these unusable plans anyway.

Sadly, the problem is about to get even worse, with expected spikes in both premiums and deductibles in 2016. Bronze plans are expected to have deductibles as high as $6,850. Silver plans are not much better, with expected deductibles of $6,500. And on top of this, premiums will rise by more than 20 percent in at least 16 states.

The program needed Republicans to help pass it as well.
Both Dems and Reps are responsible for this healthy profit margin for health insurers and those who provide health care.

Insurance is just a legal way to milk people out of money they dont have in order to partake in services that really should be cheaper if their skeeving kind didn't exist. But it's all tied into the legal system and we know how you need a lawyer to file the simplest document anymore. Just CUZ WE SAY SO. All hands wash at the same sink then go drink scotch and play golf while laughing at the misery of the lessers...

As a consumer, you are a bystander to the real action, which takes place between providers—hospitals, doctors, labs, drug companies, and device manufacturers—and the private and governmental entities that pay them.

“There is no such thing as a legitimate price for anything in health care,” says George Halvorson, former chairman of Kaiser Permanente, the giant health maintenance organization based in California. “Prices are made up depending on who the payer is.”

www.consumerreports.org...

The only function of health insurance is to pay the hospital bills.

Read it, and weap.

My $1000 broken finger is a testament to that.

There isn't ONE thing about Obamacare that is affordable. The premiums were high, higher than most people were previously paying. The deductibles are higher, higher than many people had before. The medical costs have soared so they are higher than they were. The prescription costs have increased dramatically, much more than they were before.

But Obama promised this, which we all know is NOT what we've got:

ObamaCare mandates minimum benefits and minimum value for plans. That means less Americans struggle with health insurance costs, and taxpayers and hospitals struggle less with medical debt and unpaid bills. Free preventive care and covered benefits means less healthcare spending over time as America focuses on wellness and prevention.

Quoting you for the smiley faces...this isn't a laughing matter.

Do I detest "obamacare"? You bet your ass I do.
Why was it allowed?

Insurance.

What is insurance?

Why do we need insurance?

Why is it tied into the legal system?

These are my points...

I didn't think Obama had a Democratic majority at the time...

Clinton pushed single payer and was demonized...he is the Devil's wife incarnate, right?

Bush had free reign as well...didn't see a single payer system under his repub legislature.

What do you expect to happen when you give insurance companies a license to steal.

Hippity-Hop to the bankruptcy lawyer shop

That was happening before the ACA.

You and I both (and a few others) posted articles over two years ago about how the cost of the program would severely increase in 2016.. But very few were interested.. This whole insurance scam is exactly that.. Nothing but a scam with deductibles set so high the average person will never see the insurance pay a dime until they have a long stay serious death knocking at the door event.

And some people trust government programs to do what is right, efficient, and actually works..

Not a single Republican voted for this crap. Not one.

Democratic majorities in both houses got this passed.

Now the argument for the left is "well, we couldn't get single payer passed".

Well why the hell not? You did not need a SINGLE Republican Vote. Not one.

Sit down and think about that for a few moments and tell us how the Republicans got in the way of single payer.

Your team could have passed anything they wanted... and chose this!

Wonder Why?
Obama Received $20 Million from Healthcare Industry in 2008 Campaign. Almost three times the amount given to McCain

How many TRILLIONS is that fiasco costing still to this day?

We could have paid for health care for every American for years with that...
But I'm not going to say Thanks Republicans.

No. It's the jingoism factor.
And which cost the people more...
"You're either with us or against us" or "You have to vote for it to see what's in it"
BOTH ARE DETESTABLE AND SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED!!!

I really do not like either party. I forgot my history in my first post and am paying for it...

I'm really just anti-insurance. It is an unecessary thing that just gets in the way, but has become so entrenched that the government decided to get in firsthand.

What would some of you like to see?

Price controls imposed by the Government?

Right. I can hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth now.

No...I don't and I have answered as such.
But...if you want to keep saying "the owlbear thinks Bush is to blame for Obamacare"

You just jump on that bandwagon...

And you'll find it is a hole that doesn't exist.
