Years ago, when I read "The Fourth Turning; An American Prophecy" I read that Social security will be cut off before the X Generation can benefit from it. That sounded plausible and I learned to accept that. Hell, we're used to being neglected anyway. That's life. $hit happens.

But when you think about how much goes into military spending, it causes me to growl, all the same. We could decline being the worlds biggest bully and take care of our own, for example. But no, we're all caught up in doing what we know - each man for himself, sink or swim. I hope our kids do differently. I am sure they will.

I just got through reading some material on government waste, fraud, and corruption. It just blows my mind the extent to which it has risen! Taxpayers are treated like money machines that keep getting banged harder and harder to fork it over!

If we had some way to hold politicians and government bureaucrats truly accountable, we could probably solve our economic woes within a few years, double the cost-of-living increase for SS, give our vets state-of-the-art care, and have money left over.

Government corruption is out of control and because the fox is guarding the hen house, nobody is held accountable and the American Taxpayer just keeps getting raped over and over!

How about we cut Corporate welfare or how would they feel about getting a little less for the better of the country...smh

Social security is CORPORATE WELFARE.

All social programs are.

Do people really like having to pay decades in to something to finally one day get it and be worth LESS than when they started.

I am talking about the value of the dollar there. Inflation is a killer.

Social Security is a WELFARE program, and that's all it is.

Look up Flemming V. Nestor and Helvering V. Davis.

Social Security is not an insurance program at all. It is simply a payroll tax on one side and a welfare program on the other. Your Social Security benefits are always subject to the whim of 535 politicians in Washington.

It's not a right.

And truth be told.

Since employers are matching contributions @ 6%, and the difference is made up by other means.

The ONLY social security benefits people might be 'entitled' to is the 6% they personally paid in.

Corporate Welfare: The term is often used to describe a government's bestowal of money grants, tax breaks, or other special favorable treatment on corporations or selected corporations, and implies that corporations are much less needy of such treatment than the poor.

Social Welfare: Organized public or private social services for the assistance of disadvantaged groups

Boeing received over 13 Billion in Corporate Welfare...for what?

I agree, but we should start with the billionaires first, not the elderly.

I agree here. Subsidies should be cut entirely to corporations, including all the clean energy/renewable crap Obama has subsidized to the moon because they are unable to tread water financially without it. Cut subsidies and welfare to all able bodied Americans, as well.

Not only would that "save" Social Security, it would allow us to start chipping away at the fantastical avalanche of federal debt amassed over the past 14 years.

I agree, but socialist programs are needed imo, especially in today's economy. I only really support people being on welfare if they are unable to work or the elderly though. The system is highly abused which is a major problem in my eyes. I can't think of one reason a corporation needs welfare though. Especially some of the ones on that list I shared at the beginning of the OP.

Congress can revisit this once they stop funding terrorists around the world.

A house cleaning in Congress might be a good idea but I have faith the majority will reelect the same leaders again.
