I don't know what you mean by flying, unless you were getting your pilot license. Me personally I did yoga and meditation.

On another note, the hs is in Jackson Hole, one of thee wealthiest places in the country. The article states that America Day was third most popular name for Homecoming, and it was a "survey". Sounds to me like the survey was not an actual vote of majority....as surveys are a smattering and not necessarily scientifically conducted. On the other hand, a friend of mine who lives and works in JH just texted me that Wyoming overall is Republican, so I'm guessing the Republicans told the liberals off...he also mentioned the paper there is liberal.
Whats new, sustainable development crowd trying to dominate the Tetons.
Anyway, I know how these "surveys" go. Delphi anyone????

OBE

I started off as a Christian Republican. When they went Neo-Con (insane), I didn't.

I'm not ignorant of Right thinking. Not a Democrat, never will be.

But, the world is changing. I look to where I'm going, not where I came from.

Man look at all this outrage. Suck it up people and stop being so offended. You don't have the right to be not offended in this country.

I forget that is not pc to not worship the nation and not live every day like it is America day.

PC police at it again.

Well I guess that means that Black History month and Latino History Months are going away too.

All those white kids are going to feel sad and left out.

Never happen because:

"White kids don't matter."

Yup we sure do and yet no-one ever asks the minority if they would actually be offended! Its always the white guilt ridden liber apologists that make out these people will be offended when quite often they couldn't give a monkeys. Even Saudi Arabia has a ball at Christmas and that's saying something!

Why would an immigrant feel left out? If you live in America, you're an American.

Right?

Probably because there are many "immigrants" that don't want to be part of America...they simply want to use America for all it blindly offers them while maintaining their love and respect for their home country. You see, while their home country might suck, America is giving handouts and therefore is ripe for the picking. They will go back eventually, after our country is bled dry.

The left: "FREE money, health care and more...come and get it!"

What is America Day?

If it is a day to celebrate how amazing you think you are then there in lies the problem.

Yes, I put this in the political forum. There are not enough words that I can express my extreme disgust with this principal. I hope he is fired immediately.

Sure would make you proud, wouldn't it?

I imagine many people here would make
hurting people's feelings a criminal offense.

"my rights end where your rights begin" would quickly become "your rights begin".

That is how we are raising our children,
if someone hurts your feelings,
cry and whine until people feel sorry
for you, and then get them to punish
everyone who hurt your feelings, no
matter how overly sensitive you are,
or how blind you are that you are
not the center of the world that everyone
must bend their will to.

maybe its like an after image, and we sensitize them so much to one thing that they become correspondingly desensitized to something else.

but "american pride day" is still redundant and a rather theatrical solution to what would normally require nothing more than counseling.

Would you like me to recap it so you understand? The school did a "survey" (not a vote) to determine what theme students wound like for their homecoming. America Pride was the third most popular theme and evidently the homecoming committee decided on it then the pc nuts in charge that would be thevprincipal and his assistant decided it would be too difficult for people who are immigrant to handle that so they scrapped it and the rest of the students told them what they thought. You are evidently the thought police here.

That is not true. Let's look at the source of the story.

Principal Scott Crisp said that it was not the spirit of the theme, but that a student survey noted that it might have been the name itself that caused some students to feel excluded.

“Three times as many students indicated that they were not in support of selecting the title ‘America Day,’

The senior class and many juniors protested

So obviously we had a section of the student body that had an issue with the name used to describe the day. To squash any problem before it began, the principle and others decided it would be best to change it.

The seniors and some juniors didn't like it and protested. "The rest of the students" is an incorrect statement.

America pride day would make some feel excluded but college day wouldn't exclude those not going to college??? Problem with pride days is someone always will feel excluded.

I didn't say that? I just pointed out that the day was put to a vote of the entire Student Body and "America Pride Day" came in 3rd. "College Day" came in 1st.

Strangely...I remember HS from 30 years ago and how kids used to always think it was cool to wear college sweatshirts etc. to HS. Often their older brother or sisters sweatshirt from college. So I can imagine it winning out in a vote.

I think demanding that teenagers should choose "America Pride" day is a little silly. Anyone remember being a teenager?

It is a little crazy how certain media outlets race to involve kids in the culture war..

And in order to involve them in that culture war...you need to spin a story...

A socialist, liberal, America hating School Administrator vs. Patriotic, America Loving Teens!!!

When the teens themselves were the ones to vote on the day!...Really...Who are the grown-ups in this story?

The partisan culture war encouraged by political ideologues for manipulation purposes is stupid enough...It would be a relief to see adults not encouraging their kids to perpetuate the BS.

Lets not pass down stupidity to our children.

Renamed it, I believe.

It was one of several incorporated into homecoming week, I believe.

A student survey chose College Day instead.

Gay Pride Day? Check.

Black History Month? Check.

MLK Day a National Holiday? Check.

Asian (AZN) Pride? Check.

"Sensitivity" training for school children? Check.

Pagan Pride? Check.

American Pride Day? No! It's wrong! Someone might feel bad! Boycott! Protest! Bad!

for the last time, WE ALREADY HAVE AN AMERICAN PRIDE DAY. we celebrated it last july and we will do so again next july. should we just have an american pride month and spend 30 days talking about how awesome we are?

because russia might aim for us at that point.

That's what Black History Month does. You're OK with all the rest of these, but not this one. Curious.

yeah, keep throwing that race card. it might actually stick if you play it enough.

an american used american merchandise to assault americans at an american establishment. CELEBRATE AMERICA! do we have a drunk driving appreciation day? maybe we should! do we have a war on drugs appreciation month? LETS DO IT! highest defense spending in the world day, even though we cant stop our own citizens from terrorizing day cares and movie theaters and college seminars? why the hell not?

i hope i sound ridiculous, because this argument is ridiculous. thats my point.
