Really? Perhaps you can point me to the thread that debunked it?

Here's a link to the Japanese cloak/stealth jacket (if anyone's interested).

projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp...

It is real but you dont see the whole system in the video or pictures there is a camera and projection system you dont see. It can be misleading in that it looks like the system is all self contained in the jacket itself.

It does prove the basic concept works but it is far from any practical military applications the way they did it.

I've been in the SOF for 21 years. The only guys that will ever see that kind of suit (if completed) will be the Rangers and SOF type units. The cost alone will not allow the standard soldier to have such a nice to have item.

I think the only non SF people that might get this will be snipers, This stuff just seems made for snipers. Although good snipers are pretty much invisible already in woods, grass stuff like that this could add a whole new dimension to were they can operate with the same level of stealth.

i know the cloak system is currently used on a few top secret humvees and tanks but i haven't seen human use. it hurts walking into one at night and having the guys inside laugh at you for it. the neg. part of the humvee and tank is track and dust trails

Such a system would be first used by Spec-Ops troopers, but like all
technologies, once they become old they become cheap, I wouldn't be
surprised if "Future Warrior 2020" would utilised technology such as this.

As for the design concept, their would probably be multiple. As in a
capitalist country like the US, private contractors peddle the country
forward aided by millions of dollars in funding from the DoD, they'd be in competion for the design.

I personally would like to see a suit made up of small LCD plates that reflect
the envirionment an individual is in. An organic style suit would be better
yet, one that grows something similar to "moss" that changes colour like a
Chameleon...

You mentioned that it would be standerd issue within the US army?
I seriously doubt that, as I'm trying to imagine the cost of fitting 450,000 troops with that kind of new equipment.

As for the 2020 combat suit shown to congress, it may be the next gen combats that are made to fit with a vest with balistic plates (that are able to stop small arms fire).

Our current combats have very good IR signature masking already, it just loses this property after a couple washes.
