i dont think it will happen
sadly

There are several teams (such as the one in the OP) who are actively pursuing the Google Lunar X Prize, and a few of them are reportedly far along.

I think one of these groups will succeed in meeting some or all of the requirement of the prize in the next ten years -- most likely sooner.

The Moon tall pale humanoid ETs won't allow any private landings on the Moon.

If I remember correctly, 100 tons of space dust showers the earth every day, so I presume the moon collects 25 tons per day? so mining the moon means 25 tons of processed materials will have to leave the moon every day to just keep up with the daily delivery of space dust. I don't see a problem.

NO!

Without the Moon the earth will die, so no greedy ahole should be allowed to take a single gram from the moon!

Are you nuts?

The moon is a barren lifeless rock! There is no environment the wreck and the sheer mess of the moon means you could mine for a million years and you would not get throung 0.01% of its mass. Infact you would run out of usefull things to mine before you even got near to affecting it in any way.

You eco warriors are nuts.

But what about the short, scaly reptilian ones who say it is copacetic?

I hear the short non-pale insectoid ETs will allow it.

...Not really, but it sure is easy to throw these sorts of claims out there.

Because of treaties signed decades ago...governments aren't 'allowed' to 'own' the moon or other stellar objects

Sure and the Chinese always follow the rules they agree to

LOL

First of all, an eco warrior I am NOT! I do prefer clean organic food, but! I also believe in progress.
Do you see me joining the eco warriors when they pray to the new GW religion? NO YOU DONT! in fact you'll find me on the other side shouting BS!
You got me wrong on that one crazy!

You say it would take millions of years to mine the moon, well you are just not thinking BIG!
Almost zero gravity and atmosphere removes 99% of the effort needed to mine!
Mining would be a piece of piss! Getting the stuff back in quantity would be the problem.
But! Who says those greedy corpo's would want to bring it all back?
THINK BIG!
The future of space travel might not look like what we think!

I agree with I think we have to get Helium 3 from the moon to make a fusion reactor.
It would sort out out energy needs once and for all, we don't have much helium 3 on earth.

Who's going to spend 10's of billions to retrieve H3 when no one is willing to spend a dime on a H3 reactor?
You gotta figure the overall costs involved.
Fuel for a nat gas power plant is dirt cheap.
Wind and solar costs are dropping.
Plus try to get the public's approval for a fusion reactor.

You still need heavy equipment because the Moon is still a big rock.
Just how do you expect to power this equipment?
