My favorites:

The Cow Boys

The Long Riders

Purgatory (a western/supernatural mix)

The Ballad of Little Jo

Deadwood ( I'm a big Ian McShane fan)

If you are in for a light-hearted western themed movie, James Garner in either Support Your Local Sheriff or Support Your Local Gunfighter. The cast is similar, on purpose...that's part of the fun and allure.

I've seen very few westerns over the years. Not a huge fan, don't hate them either but just am not a huge fan.

But there was a time around '89 or '90. I was at a friends house and he had just upgraded his stereo system. He threw in Silverado and played the first scene, I presume, with a shootout or some such, people in a shack getting shot at.

That was a pretty awesome scene. Great sound way before the digital age and 5.1 and all that jazz. Don't know how well it holds up to others mentioned here but that's about all I have in that category.

a reply to: Skid Mark Very nice and thanks again Skid Mark. I liked how they were so friendly up until the fight and although sad, the ending said so much about how the outcome turned out to be the better of the two possibilities, imo.

I just thought that Quaid did the part better. I'm a HUGE Val fan. He's gotta do more comedy. He was good at it:
