Bravo! well written and stated. It seems to me that both the past ,present, and future will have the unfortunate weight of ignorance and gullibility on its shoulders as it scales the summits of knowledge over power.

"the dangerous falsehood mankind is enlightened". When does this miraculous event happen; not at birth, one has to work at it and I completely disagree with this fear factor negative statement of yours. You have to be enlightened (have a perspective as to what this entails "enlightenment is this" in order to speak upon); about the missteps of others seeking or thinking they have achieved this level of awareness you are calling all processes FALSE. Where do you exist in the measurement of the 'enlightenment' spectrum.

Perhaps it's only my choice of wording you disagree with. I didn't mean enlightenment in the spiritual sense, which may have confused some people.

Tell me more as am curious as to the 'confusion' of the wording of the OP. To make a statement of this sort one would assume it has to have been viewed from a more informed position (than most). How did you achieve the knowledge/enlightenment?

How about I rephrase the title then: "The dangerous falsehood that modern man is smarter than in the past."

I'm sorry that you don't like the "fear factor negativity" of the statement, but many things in life are fear-worthy.

What is the point of living in fear (to be afraid) and where does this move mankind/back to cave dwelling circumstances as if a good thing to tell the human you are have no imagination/creativity? You have nothing to be sorry for. What is your premise that mankind lives in false enlightenment? How did this happen? Religious dogmatic practices; what is your basis in the observance the human has run out of luck?

I can't bring myself to go to the zoo anymore. If you actually try and connect with an animal in the zoo it will just depress you.

Then go to the US congress you’ll get a lot of talking animals there!

Then let us put congress in zoos and free the innocent animals!

Geneticists:
Dr. Crow: we are inferior to caveman.
Dr. Knodrashov: no human geneticist doubts man is degenerating.
Dr. Lynch Even assuming a lower mutation rate, we are degenerating at 1%-5% per generation.
Implies a young Creation and as with DNA complexity, theory of evolution is unlikely.

Average cell in 15 yr old - up to 6,000 mutations per cell. (all your cells are different)
Skin cell in 60 yr old - up to 40,000 mutations
Mutations primary cause of aging and death.
“...little potential for substantially increasing the upper limit of human life span.” (upper limit: 120 yrs)
--Michael Lynch (Population Geneticist)
50% reduction in sperm count in men.

Around 100 new mutations per generation.

Dr. Francis Collins, head of Human Genome Project, converted to Christ partly due to the data he found working in genetics.

Lol. Ancient philosophers would be stunned and amused at the thought processes of the average person in today's society. No, people aren't more "intelligent" than they were ages ago. Most people's thought process never leaves the circle of what's for dinner or what's going to happen on "Honey Boo Boo." That's just being honest. We live in a society where "celebrity" gossip is considered "knowledge" for God's sake!!

You are not accounting for 'common man' now existing in the billions programed to think short term (grasping for instant gratification). Its just a system that seems to be working. Distract everyone with 'inconveniences' that for ancient civilizations would be considered miracles. You are speaking of a small group of individuals that could read/were learned and spent their lives in study. Common man then was not afforded this opportunity. What do you suppose the ancients have (as far as an edge) above our own modern philosophers?

Modern man has the opportunity to do anything they so choose to. People, in our day and age, choose to surround themselves with unnecessary "entertainment" and novelties.
When was the last time you saw someone reading a book? Something they could actually learn from? When was the last time you saw the average person using the internet for information rather than pointless porn videos or music videos?
What advantage did the ancients have over modern man? A desire to enhance the mind, not degrade it with rubbish.

I read and was told it was pointless as all information can be gathered watching You-Tube or through Wikipedia; (another forum). Disconcerting; as how can one understand another's perspective without experiencing how their mind works? I see what is happening with technology as distractions; implemented on purpose (make them even dependent on something); apparently food shortages, civil war, quality of life in the dumpster and disease are not enough?
