Religion is poison.
That's the famous communist party line, from Mao Tse Tung.
I think the religion he was referring to was Buddhism, and the various related forms of the eastern doctrines, like Lamaism, maybe even Taoism, and
would include things like Falun Gong if he were alive today.
Those religions generally had people sit and meditate, and he was interested in people doing work, building the nation. So, it was a practical view to
take, to get people motivated to construct the material things the society required.
I happen to disagree with the statement, but recognize the value of having some people believe it. Both the yin and the yang work together to
accomplish the same goals. God created the Devil for the same reason.
Because many people believe that "religion is poison", we get lots of material things appearing in the world. One of these things is the internet,
which, as it happens, makes it easier than ever to get the message of various religions out there to those with ears to hear. So, is materialism bad?
It helps to spread the spiritualism in the end.
Don't let it make you a different person than you are.
Who are we, really? Depending on the society you grow up in, you think of yourself as this or that.
But, when you dig deep down, into the nature of reality, you find all the core things that make up our being has been described in the scriptures
somewhere.
At the core, all the religions tell us that man is made up of 3 parts.
1) body
2) emotion
3) thought
The mystic Gurdjieff liked to call these three,
1) the moving center
2) the emotional center
3) the intellectual center
With our body, we move about the world. When we encounter things, they motivate feelings, and we think about them, reason about what we see and feel,
and use our mind to plan and execute actions.
The thing about the Buddhists, and eastern religions in general, is they say man has these 3 "poisons". You think "religion is poison", but religion
says man himself is poisoned with three things
1) greed
2) anger
3) delusion
Notice that the poisons correspond to the 3 parts of a human being. It is with the body, that we feed our greed. Classic example is eating too much
and getting fat, but also the lusts of the flesh, like sex. We are busy with consumption. Collecting material things, buying cars, houses, computers,
etc..Now when we don't get exactly what we want, then enters the next poison "anger". Man gets angry when his life is being controlled, and he can't
feed the greed. Then, of course, there are all those things we think we need, that we really don't, and all the people we think are controlling us,
when they really aren't, hence enter the final poison "delusion".
Now in the old testament, the lord deals with these poisons, and he has a rather harsh cure;
1) famine
2) war
3) persecution
1) A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee:
2) and a third part shall fall by the sword round about thee;
3) and I will scatter a third part into all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after them.
KJV, Ezekiel 5:12
So, as you can see, the old testament LORD deals with these same Buddhist poisons in a different way. Where the land has practiced "greed" he brings
"famine". Where people are controlling others, generating "anger", he brings the sword of "war" and conflict. And finally, where people are
"deluded", he brings them the threat of sword, but not actual sword, he just chases them around the planet, and they run hither and thither imagining
"persecutions"; they suffer mentally, but not physically.
Jesus thought, that this was a bit harsh, so he brought in a new doctrine, for those who follow him, i.e. the true Christians;
For the 3 poisons, he preached the 3 "antidotes";
1) charity
2) hope
3) faith
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
KJV, 1 Corinthians 13:13
So, according to Christian doctrine, the solution to the poison of "greed" is to have "charity". The solution to "anger" is to provide "hope". And the
solution to "delusion" is to give the people "faith".
Of course, if you're a Christian, you'll learn all about these things, and you'll be set on the path to cure your soul of these 3 poisons. But, what
about the people who are not Christian. They still play a role in the society. And what they do, affects what Christians do. So, there must be broader
solution for everyone, even non-believers. That's when the founders of nations decided to make a society based on the 3 "pillars"
1) commerce
2) sports and entertainment
3) education
Most of your life now, is occupied with these 3 pillars of society. Doesn't matter whether you're religious or not. You have no choice, because it is
deliberately set up this way, so that everyone has to follow religion. They don't know they are in a religious system, they think that religion is
over there, and the rest of society is over here. But, it's all religion.
The societies "antidotes" are: 1st, to satisfy your "greed", you need money, to buy all the things you want to have. But, to get that money, you need
to demonstrate "charity". You have to provide your labor, your time, your assets, things you own, to someone else who needs or wants these things,
before you can get the money to buy the things to satisfy your own greed.
All that person does, is hand you pieces of paper called dollar notes. These things have no value. Society makes them have a potential value by
conventions, so that you can use these worthless pieces of paper, to demand the things you want.
So, the "alchemical" principle involved here is "
individual greed, is transformed into collective charity" , by setting up the 1st pillar of
society, which is "commerce". LEAD has been transformed into GOLD. Lead is the poison, and Gold is the antidote, the final objective, that cures the
poison.
2nd, to protect against "anger", the society finds a way to diffuse the tensions. So, a poor family may be angry at the society that denies them this
or that. They may riot, break into shops, and generally be disorderly. So, we give them sports. An individual from a disadvantaged group, can become a
basketball star, and make millions of dollars, and all of the people who identify with him, can sit around the TV set and "cheer". They all have hope,
that if he can do it, there's always a chance that any one of them can do it. There's a way out of the poverty, since one of us has done so. And we
all run out and buy a basket ball and begin practicing. That takes our mind off of the injustices of inequality, and the sport has given "hope" to the
many.
3rd, education...for deusion...etc..
from here, you can begin to re-construct the plan of the world. There's too much to go into here, and it would take us far off topic.
But, the main point is "religion is not poison", "religion is the antidote" to the poison. It is just that many people can't see.
