Well if you build airstrips in international waters why can't you fly reconnaissance planes over them?

all this flexing is really immature. grow up world superpowers

Actually you can fly over them. Building artificial islands, which is what China is doing, do not make them sovereign territory. An EEZ also does not make the area sovereign territory. Flying over the islands and sailing vessels in the area is called freedom of navigation and its accepted under UN and international law.

They want to abandon pacifism which they accomplished and honestly I can't blame them. China is trying to bully the region

This is why hiring some pirates to harass chinas new islands might be a good idea. Someone that cant be traced back to the US as usual.

Maybe the pilot should next time tell them you dont have the balls to shoot us down because our debt to your nation will b e null and void and a state of war will exist if you do so. DO so at your peril chinese navy. No more responses will be given you have been warned.US navy out.

I do wonder if US would tolerate anywhere as much as Chinese generally do tolerate foreign military craft anywhere near their coasts albeit international waters proper. Ie, around Hawaii? Catalina Island?

If its in international airspace and waters yes they do. If its within the 12 miles limit though thats a diffrent story. the CHinese are claiming territorial waters way outside of 12 miles. Creating a island does not skirt the international law no matter how much they want to try to claim it does.

It seems like we are very tolerant since just about every month Russia and China flex with navy and aircrafts off our coasts

China has never flown off anyone's coast. They don't have the aircraft for it. They occasionally send fighters near Japanese territorial waters but that's it.

The ships off Alaska are the first time the Chinese Navy have come close to the US in that manner. Every other time they've been near the USv it's been a planned visit.

agreed but it has happened. Russia being the main perpetrator

Russia being about the ONLY one of the two doing it, just as we do it to them. It's a non-story except when the Media needs to stir up something, or distract people from something.

China making airstrips in international waters does not immediately threaten the USA but every Asian country in that region, correct.

If the USA built airstrips in international waters I would be equally outraged

and Russia is the only one flexing and threatening US airspace

Except they're not threatening any airspace. It's the exact same thing the US does around China and Russia both. The only difference is that Russia uses modified bombers for the most part, because they don't have the dedicated reconnaissance fleet that the US has. The US used bombers once, but after too many close calls and aircraft being shot up they developed straight reconnaissance aircraft like the EC-130, and RC-135.

Russia went a different way, and at one point had modified bombers with signals interception equipment. Bombers are good platforms because they're long range, have good sensors used for their missions, and give the crews navigation training at the same time.

The point of the missions is to time how long it takes for a response, monitor radar signals, and try to listen in as the fighters are intercepting them. They're not a threat to the airspace. They barely enter the ADIZ before turning around. In fact almost half the missions in the last year, that entered the US ADIZ weren't even intercepted. They were just monitored on radar.

Your kidding right? The Chinese steal our fresh water on a massive scale, have spy and fishing ships in the Gulf of Mexico 12 miles off our shores that plunder our local fish supply, spy ships off Hawaii and Alaska while the morons in D.C. do NOTHING.

China is now stealing land from its neighbors, vital fishing and Oil waters and having the Gaul to threaten any plane let alone a U.S. military plane a thousand miles away from its mainland in international commercial air lanes is beyond something they should be given a beating for. They are a plague to the world and until the U.S. gives them a stiff pimp slap they will keep it up.
