I want to explore the possibility that one may be giving support for subjects they disagree with. We often see threads come along like "Man dies" then we come along and read the op and find out something entirely different than what we were expecting so we give our support by way of flags so that others may see. What if we are being duped into supporting something we do not and we ignore the obvious.

Personally I feel that we on here have more power than anyone wants to admit and we should start to question such and be careful in what direction we send that power. Take for instance a recent title of 8 States suffering droughts. You go and learn possibly some great info on the subject but did you flag the thread and thereby giving your power to the drought and thereby prolonging the drought even though your intentions were quite the opposite?

Sensationalist Headlines on ATS is like the secret fetish of doom porn we all love - Denial is not a river in Egypt.

Here's my rule of thumb.

If the headline is in all caps, it screams 'please read me!' If the headline is too long it screams 'I know how to copy and paste!'

I've been guilty of poor headlines in the past and it is a dying art. But this day in age what passes as a good headline is not worth the four seconds that it took to type it.
