To both who have replied, thank you.

Kanga,
Yes you are down to three, until you walk outside and get blasted by pollutants from transportation and other constant polluters.

You'll hear absolutely no argument from me on that front. None at all. As in... "I got nothin'" I agree 100% and that's one of the many reasons I feel that outlawing smoking is ludicrous at best, asinine at worst.

For me it was a choice for my own health. Nearly dying from pneumonia and from mowing the yard... I needed a change and did not have enough willpower to do it alone. It has helped me tremendously on both fronts so I do it because it works for me with the understanding that it may not work for everyone.

Couldn't have said it batter!

Edit: better! Lol! Still playing outside.... god bless mobile devices!

My VV mods. From left to right... iPV Mini 2, iPV 3 Li, Lotus LE80, Hana Modz V4S, VaporShark DNA 200, SX Mini M class x 2

SX Minis (the one on the right has a bad carbon fiber wrap to protect it on the go).

SX Mini

Kayfun Lite + V2

So the VaporShark lets you load custom screens and I did one with ATS and a globe behind it. Looks awesome in person but with the lighting in here I can't get it to come up well. I'll keep trying, it's a pretty cool feature, one of hundreds on that device.

Terrible screen shot, I think I'm too tired to deal with it.

Pardon the juice, just pulled the wicks as they were looking a little rough. Marquis RDA on SX Mini.

Need to adjust those coils slightly.

Kayfun V4 with stainless ring (can't find the glass and it's irritating me).

It comes down to carbon?
Something I have no say over in the best of times, with my neighbors bbqing. And right now getting ash from wildfires.

Pets and children have no say. You are correct. But a responsible adult can deal with both and use tobacco products without endangering either.

I have yet to venture into building my own coils. Would you say that it's hard to do that or no? And which rebuildable tank is your go to/favorite?

OK! OK! I've seen this. Are you MI-6? When I'm done teaching.. and retire. And no one shows up and says "pee please"

I was trying to kick a habit. Yinz are recruiting Wozniac/Jobs/Gates...

Beautiful night. Go outside. Pay no matter how old you are.

Yes.. we as adults control a kid or pets environment. Lol.. no a log fire is in fact carbon. But it does not have the excessive extra. And I would much rather burn a marsh mellow. Or try to move out of the way of the smoke to have it follow me.

You got me!

Not trying to preach. Do I want a filtered cig verses a vapor... vapes tastes better. But I will admit. Pets/insurance has pushed traditional tobacco aside.

And oddly its working.

But having had cancer twice...

No.. I got pups. And only I trust me to care for them.

Vaping has giving me a choice of being myself while enjoying a pot or 2 of coffee in the morning.

I feel it's a much better alternative.

It really depends on the build and the tank. It can be very easy or a huge pain in the ass (a lot of people have problems with nickel since it's flimsy and they're non contact). It takes a little trial and error at first, but then you get it and you save a ton of money and can also really tailor the vape (and know what's in it).

Wrapping a straight forward coil is very easy, and getting it centered is usually pretty easy depending on the atty. Wicking can be an enormous pain depending on a number of factors, but when you get it it clicks and your tank doesn't leak and no dry hits (it's again easy to wick some tanks).

Some people may flip you crap for it, but get a coil jig. Makes it incredibly easy. Feed in wire, turn thing and count wraps, pull out wire, install wire. Wicking a single coil on a lot of tanks is easy too, just watch a video for your specific tank. You have to get the feel for too much cotton and not enough.

My favorite rebuildable is the Kayfun V4, but probably not best when starting. It's pricey and it was hard to find one in stock in the States for awhile (it's easy now), but I think it's worth it (the machining is perfect and the juice control/top fill is really awesome). I replaced the airflow control with a larger one that's not adjustable and was lucky that it's perfect for me. They make some good clones too. I would go with a Subtank Mini (they come with a rebuildable deck and you can use coils) since they have great flavor, and you can restrict the airflow down to act like a Nautilus. They're not expensive, they're easy to build and wick, and they last.

I'm trying to think of another good single coil tank to start with, but my brain is a little fried from a long day, and really I think almost anyone would recommend the Subtank.

I didn't understand a word of that! Can you rephrase please? Too tired to go play outside right now, I had a lot of that over the last 5 days though!

I have never seen the equipment I have seen presented in this thread. It's very tech driven. The closest I've come is a digital hooka. It reminds me of James bond. Everyone here has brought the goods. It's good reading. And yes I'm tired too. Time to wrap it up.

Good night.

Thanks for that Domo. It's the next logical step for me as it's almost the only thing I haven't relied yet. I've watched people do it and it seems easy, but I know better.

It would be nice to be able to build your own coils to save a ton of money but also to make sure you would have them if something did happen down the line that made getting them somewhat difficult.

With a little more research, I think I'm going to take the plunge.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh! Yeah, that was pretty obvious, I blame the hour and the sleepiness.

The tech is crazy with the DNA 200 chip mods. You can control every split second of power to the atomizer after firing the button, from the power to the temperature, the chip records a ton of data to help you maximize battery life and performance, you can watch in real time while you vape and tweak a TON of variables... You can customize the screens and the watt hours and power you get from 3S Lipo are pretty freaking amazing when compared to 18650 batteries. The charge time is only 1.5 hours with the VaporShark "zip charging", which shames 18650 mods that need to have the batteries taken out and popped into a charger (if you're smart). It freaking knows the temperature in the room.

(Not my pic, too lazy to plug in the PC right now, for all the awesomeness of the software it doesn't work with a Mac)

i thought about switching to vaporizers many times (slightly less harmful), but i dont want a science project!

all i need is a pack of 72's red, a lighter and at least one working lung!

to me its the equivalent of the transition from Instant messaging (when it was a craze) and facebook and twitter.

progression to me needs to have less input to reach the same output. theres too many stuff involved with vaping.

ill switch when it becomes 'point-and-click'esque'. buy a vape thing and smoke. no coils, no charging, no fluids etc.

thats just me though, i respect 'Vaparistas'.

You're never going to get there.. you may as well swear off beer because people enjoy the hobby - it's not one and the same, really. No more than say, someone smoking a hookah enjoys the plumes of smoke, the nicotine, et al, you aint gonna pull out a hookah for a quick fag out the front of the office.

it's a ritual, a set thing.

I need to make my own stuff too, seeing as I live in the amazingly wonderful land of OZ where everything ilillegal because backwards hicks.

I find it funny. People continue to retool, refine or redefine their addiction and pretend it's new or safer or whatever the term is.
Folks, you have not quit smoking. You are still inhaling the addictive substance.

Where I am vaping is getting the same laws as tobacco.

If smoking or vaping or anything tobacco/nicotine related is something you are in favor for, you need to stand up for it. BTW Eggplant has nicotine as does tomatoes, etc.

After all, it is still legal. Right?

Who cares? Who cares honestly? Good god, we're all going to die. Every. Single. Person. On. This. Planet. In just under 100 years, over 7 BILLION people will be DEAD...

So does it really matter if people ENJOY a vice, that by this point, is made as harmless as it can be, given it's method of ingestion?

Nah, tell them they're idiots... Because they're obviously fooling themselves.. Look at the depths to which they go, in order to hide the fact they're just legal junkies.. wooden cases, usb pass throughs, custom wicks, varying air intake hole sizes, different battery mods, different style atmoizers/cartomizers/clearomizers...

They sound like they're just crying into their cornflakes, if you ask me. "Woe is me, the lowly nicotine addict, lest thine eyes see my true nature, I shall parody a hobby and pretend, I am free."

Glad to help!

I've been intimidated at pretty much every step I've taken with vaping. I started out saying that I thought mods using 18650s were stupid, that I would never want to build, that I would never use an RDA, and a host of other things. My first set up was an Aspire battery and Atlantis tank and I thought that would be the end of it. Nope.

So building is actually as easy as you want it to be. It's safe too as long as you aren't using a mech mod (and then it's safe if you know what you're doing). The Kanger (I just realized the connection) is easy to build and will work well with a single coil.

This is the kind of thing that I just don't even understand. The fanciest I get are twisted coils, but I have a feeling that's going to change.

So a good shopping list (if you want to do temp control you need some better wire and I'd recommend a Pioneer4you D2 mod to start):

-Subtank mini
-Ceramic tweezers (you don't need these but you need these) After installing the coil you're going to want to fire it and squeeze to work out hot spots making it glow evenly from the outside to the middle, the middle needs to be brightest. You don't want to do this with normal tweezer while firing because ouch
-26 and 28 gauge kanthal (lightning vapes)
-Organic Japanese cotton squares
-Coil Jig
-Mini screwdriver set (and/or drill bit set) get stuff dedicated to vaping and keep it clean
-Good pair of small wire cutters
-Pair of small but sharp scissors
-Ohm meter (even if your mod has one built in it's easier to screw the deck in and build this way and it's a nice way to make sure everything is working correctly)
-Vodka (to "clean", seriously though)

It may seem expensive but the up front cost is going to be mitigated quick after you no longer need to buy coils. Plus it's fun. Plus it tastes better. Plus you know for sure where everything is coming from. Plus coils you build last a lot longer and just need to be rewicked. For the same price as a pack of the coils I use you can buy enough wire and cotton to last at least a year.

I saw that you were considering buying the Subtank "kit" or whatever. I wouldn't. The sub box seems pretty cool, it's a good size, but if it were me and I were picking up a new mod I'd go with the Pioneer4You D2 (and I'm slightly pissed at the company). It gives you more power (75 Watts), it gives you TC and I like the form factor a lot more than the Sigelei 75. I think that's all still accurate, maybe the kit mod comes with TC now or something, but it's had some issues and the D2 is something I'm considering picking up. If you buy anything, buy it online. The local shop that I REALLY like wanted something insane like $90 for the Subbox kit, and you can get it from a reputable place for a bit over $60 last I checked with free shipping.

I would really suggest getting something that does temp control. It's a whole different ball game, and worth the extra $10-$20 at this point. You hit the fire button and you can inhale as long as you want with the airflow you want and it stays the same. It's amazing with rebuildable stuff because even if you screw up you won't get a dry hit, and if you do it won't be much of one. If you find you hate rebuilding you can get premade temp coils for the same price as normal ones. I don't know what you're using, but you will have to invest in some good 18650 batteries and a good charger too. Better performance and safety (bad things happen with bad batteries/chargers).

Man I'm nerdy about this, and I don't even know half of it yet.

It's unfathomable to me that people, for any reason, can be so averse to vaping...

The one thing that people have had against tobacco all along is that it can cause cancer, directly related to the method of ingestion. Burnt plant material and the cocktail of additives, included to reveal your personal flavour country.

Remove all the tar, smoke, adulterants and suddenly you have pure nicotine and smog-machine vapour that has been used in hospitals to administer asthma meds for years, has been used at concerts where people would inhale concentrated amounts for hours - unhindered and not only takes the profit away from the evil swines who have grown fat and lazy from the profits of their death peddling, but it gives you, the consumer the ability to mix your product as you see fit, strength wise - none at all if so desired - any flavour of your choosing, mixed, individual...

How can anyone with any ability to think, berate the decision of smokers to head this route. It does my head in.

It's like yelling at some guy in Japan, after he's taken a wide berth around fukushima, "Oi, just because you are not walking in radioactive pollution, doesn't mean you're not still walking. You are! Stop lying to yourself."

i just don't get it...

While I am stoked that you are all stoked about vaping, let's remember is a smoking cessation turned hobby. It CAN become a very expensive hobby as well, if you go the OP's route. Nothing wrong with that, and the money saved on smokes actually more than likely will even itself out within a month or 3 (that's how much cheaper vaping is).

One thing I say to all vapers though, don't freaking vape indoor at a random business and say "wha whaaa, it's not smoke!"

It's not just Carbon. That was quite an over-simplification. I know you were just quoting another post, so don't worry about defending yourself. There's carbon in nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin and the flavoring additives. These are the 4 ingredients in e-luquids. It's the compounds the carbon is in that you have to worry about. Formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia and many other Carcinogenic or potentially Carcinogenic compounds found in and added to commercial tobacco.

This.

I've just gotten back into vaping after trying it out back in 2012 with disappointing results, but am finding myself a lot happier 3 years later with the new equipment recommended by a friend (thanks Kanga!).

However, I still treat my vaping like I'm smoking an actual cig. I don't whip it out in the middle of a store, another person's (non-smoker) house, or the many other places were smoking is not allowed.

I'm not going to shove it in anyone's face.

Since I was already in the habit of not smoking in places I wasn't suppose to, it's very easy for me to not vape in those same places!

I want a mod that makes the sonic screwdriver sound when I use it!

Vector99, I couldn't possibly agree with you more about that. Cloud chucking in a public business which does not allow smoking is not only rude, but it further tarnished the image of the entire vaping movement. I don't vape anywhere that I didn't smoke, except in my house and car.
And yeah, hobbyist level vaping can get ridiculously expensive, but just as a smoking cessation tool it is waaayyy less expensive than cigarettes, over a month or two.

You'll be up to a box mod in no time if you stick with it.

We all start out with the best of intentions only to go all out once we've decided we aren't going to go back to smoking!
