I live on the campus and just got this alert on my phone. Helicopters everywhere

Update from MIT alert: There is no active shooter on campus, the incident occurred at Portland and Main St.

Seeing tweets that one person got shot in Cambridge, on Portland. Suspect is at large.

ETA - reports saying campus lockdown is lifted. Shooting occurred off campus, one person sustained non life threatening injuries. Shooter is not believed to be on campus. Police investigating and searching the area.

The initial report of an active shooter came from MIT Police on Twitter. That alert was recalled a short time later after it was determined the shooting took place off campus. Students are being told they do not need to seek shelter because the shooter is not believed to be on campus.

According to Cambridge Police one person suffered non-life threatening injuries on Portland Street around 4:30 p.m.
