I don't know if the US economy will be able to hold steady with this extra influx. Stock markets are already fluctuating wildly with another financial meltdown soon on its way.

“The president has directed his team to scale up that number next year,” Mr Earnest said. “And he’s informed his team that he would like them to accept, at least make preparations to accept, at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the next fiscal year.”

Sure - let's allow 10,000 people in. After all, I'm sure most of them are normal people with no ties to terrorist cells trying to destroy, maim, or kill....

Are you being facetious?

There are about 11,000 people born in the US per day. 10,000 people in a country of 320 million is a .003125% increase.

"at least" is the key phrase.

btw, where's the U.N. and the other Arab countries ?

This latest onslaught of refugees might be a prelude to war escalation.

I believe the UN may be the sinister culprit behind the mass migrations going on right now.

Yup.

Looks like it. Smells like it.....

S.O.P. for the U.N.

The U.N. refugee agency is seeking an extra $30.5 million through the end of this year in an emergency appeal for financial help for Europe's refugee crisis.

Tuesday's appeal by UNHCR comes as the agency projects that some 400,000 new arrivals seeking protection will have come to Europe via the Mediterranean this year — compared to 219,000 last year— and possible 450,000 next year.

The funds would supplement an $800 million budget for 2015 and 2016 for helping handle refugee flows to Europe. The plan centers on 12 countries: Belgium, Bosnia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Serbia, Spain, and Turkey.

UNHCR has tallied 322,500 arrivals across the Mediterranean this year, nearly half from Syria alone.

10,000 isn't that much really. You do realize there are there are Christians and other religions there other than Islam? Almost 11 million people have been displaced, while there is a chance some ISIS people can come through, with proper vetting of them, we should get true refugees. It's not an ideal situation but it's one of our own making. I really can't blame anyone for wanting to get out of that hell hole. That being said we have to make sure we do our homework

Don't minimalize these people! Whether it's 10 or 10,000, they're still people and their numbers count.

Take a look at how many Iraqis we have let in. It's not a large number. What would you do with them? Their President is willing to kill them and ISIS will eat them, rape them and make them slaves or just blow them up for fun.

Add them to all the Greeks and we'll be full up with refugees until the next crapstorm. Funny how everybody hates the U.S. until their own country goes haywire.

Well, seeing as how our own recent ineptitude caused the Iraq mess and allowed ISIS right in the door, there's not a whole lot of high ground to be found to justify doing nothing. Hell, considering we also are responsible for arming ISIS in Syria, I guess the same can be said there.

Here's an idea: We take in war torn nations' refugees but in exchange, those war torn nations take America's politicians... starting with the POTUS and working our way down the list. Everybody (that matters) wins with that arrangement.

Maybe if Obama and his allies stopped bombing the place and sat down with Assad to form a coordinated plan to stop ISIS people would stop fleeing.

Imagine how hard it would be living in a place where you have ISIS raising all hell, then America bombing whatever it feels like to dislodge Assad with your own army in the middle of it supposedly trying to stabilize the nation by taking back Isis controlled territory.....

These people need help to make Syria safe again so they can return home.

It sounds like a small number but is not when taking into consideration how much refugees US takes every year on top of the illegal immigration across the border.
