If you were lucky enough to be of an age in the 90s you will probably have heard or heard of the album Jagged Little Pill , released in 1995 it launched the career of young Canadian singer / song writer Alanis Morissette , selling a massive 18.7 million copies in 1996 and taking the musical world by storm.

Jagged Little Pill was in my view a very special album , it charted the loves and hates of an angry young woman through songs finely crafted with passionate intelligent lyrics delivered with fire and fine vocal range , the album was then sprinkled with musical magic by legendary producer Glen Ballard , the end product was nothing short of magnificent.

If you loved Jagged Little Pill back in the day but haven't heard it for years do your ears a favour and press play , if you've not heard the album before then you really need to listen to this....

01. "All I Really Want"
02. "You Oughta Know
03. "Perfect"
04. "Hand in My Pocket"
05. "Right Through You"
06. "Forgiven"
07. "You Learn"
08. "Head over Feet"
09. "Mary Jane"
10. "Ironic"
11. "Not the Doctor"
12. "Wake Up"

20 years !

I actually loved this entire album. I remember the first time I heard 'You Oughta Know' and I was hooked. Such anger and angst back then by young Alanis. Thank you for bringing it up!

One of the all time misquoted song lyrics, 'The crossed eyed bear that you gave to me.'

Never personally got in to it, to be honest.

But the album was huge when I was 13 and heaps of chicks I used to hang out with were obsessed with it and various songs from the Album were constantly on MTV, so I guess I was most certainly influenced by it.

It was actually the year when I first hooked up a genuine girlfriend.

How Ironic, lol.

It was supposed to be "cross Owlbear that you gave to me", she lied. Still, it was a great night.

Yeah, it's right up there with Creedence's 'There's a bathroom on the right.'

She was one wigged out chick, man. I think she had some serious issues. Dave Coulier must have really rattled her brains. She was a little too Canadian for me.
The big album of '95 was Mellon Colie And The Infinite Sadness by the Smashing Pumpkins. Fo sho.

The two things that stand out to me about that influential, creative album were.. .the deep embarrassment felt for her over her misunderstanding of the meaning of "ironic"... on display to the whole world .. . for all time... admittedly all the way to the bank, for her, but egads...

and the other thing was the blurred out nether regions in one of her videos where she's naked on a subway, and the dark, lower blur makes it look like she had a fright wig attached...er, "down there." Leading to her nickname in my house... monster box.

I saw an interview with her years ago.
Seems like it was set at her home or apartment in Canada.

The interviewer asked her if she was still angry and she replied something to the effect of...
"of course not! I'm rich!".

Just made me chuckle at the time...here's to Alanis

Child prodigy, world traveler, athlete, mother, and very talented and wealthy musician!

BTW: I still have both the cassette and CD...helped me through many a "hard time"!

Those were the days. I still listen to that album too.

She is such a special lady. Artists nowadays just don't have that personality, uniqueness and realness.

90's were the best.
