'A113' Number Brands Virtually Every Pixar Movie

why oh why? is it a conspiracy? well nah, the going excuse is because it's the classroom number of the animation studio at California Institute of the Arts.

a 'friendly nod 'indeed to pixar colleagues who all learned animation not just in the same school/institute, but apparently the very same room, i guess.

This is really a Hitchcock kind of thing, only smaller. It's got to be in "Monsters" as well, unless an illustrator in-the-know has said that it's not in there. Nice placement on some of those, I wonder if one of the illustrator's leaked this to someone or people actually discovered it in the films without prior knowledge. Nice thread, thanks.

it was probably a mystery for a while but back them maybe ppl were less 'conspiracy theory' suspicious.

its probably become a pixar number despite its origin at CIA; they're probably expect a new animator recruited out of zimbabwe or wherever that never heard of CIA to still use that choice of digits than any other for labelling animated objects, apparently.

It is not shown in "Monsters" because "Monsters" is the code movie about CERN opening doorways to other dimensions on 23rd September 2015.

This is because A113 = 23rd September because 1+1+3=2+3 or 23 and A = September in my minds eye (see what I did there)

Also, it's was fairly clear imo from Toy Story onwards. Toy Story is a code movie for earths invasion by space rangers on the 23rd September 2015 and 1+1+3=5........so 2015.

Since the dawn of animation animators have left subtle messages and "easter eggs" meant for coworkers and peers. It is a pretty neat tradition... even when some of the jokes can be inappropriate.

uniformly applying a CIA classroom # would mean either Pixar animators all learned /worked animation not just in the same school/institute, but apparently the very same room OR it has become a company tradition to stick to that series of digits for virtually all animation labeling, forward.

A113 has appeared in at least 45 animated films, TV shows and video games
Out of Pixar's 14 films, A113 popped up in 13 of them
Number also appeared in live-action movies like Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
Oscar-winning Pixar director Brad Bird has used A113 in every one of his films, including The Incredibles and Ratatouille
