Quite honestly because the way it works, ie favors in the form of laws to those who have the money, power, influence, and connections needed to get you to the point of being presented to even compete for the final prize the answer is no, there are not better. Clinton's and bushes are extremely close and have spent decades building what they need in this favor system.

There are better candidates but what makes them better is the very thing that would keep them from getting to the point of selection for final two to even compete for the final prize in the first place.

Ah, money, the root of all evil.

Thanks for the clarification.

Thank you for this. Show him for who he really is..A liar and a cheater.

Name a single candidate is either party who isn't. It's like a requirement. The list of who isn't would be much shorter. But I'm sure whoever someone is supporting is on the short list, the others are the problem.

Bernie Sanders.

Crazy how people on this site support Sanders so much but we all know what socialism and socialist governments do to our privacy.

What scares you most about socialism?

Nothing to fear, there's reality and the problems that stem from the idealogy of it when it meets reality.

In the end I think it's great that some people would rather have Sanders than an establishment democrat and trump than establishment republican. It's a pipe dream because of the reality of the way our system works

Even if enough people voted in a Sanders style socialism then again , it comes up against the reality of what would be needed and what could be provided.

As Trump continuously requested Obama to produce his Birth Certificate, how about he shows everyone his Tax Returns?

Why are the media scared to ask him these questions anyway?

Because everyone knows that those crazy "Taxers" are just a bunch of racists who can't stand the idea of a white man as President.

Besides, it takes a little time to poorly forge seven years worth of tax returns. Then you have to pay off the right people to make sure the real tax returns never see the light of day.

Pretty much. You want to take a first step to change this? And this is my own opinion. Change finance laws. I'm not talking public financing (don't believe in it) don't care if corporations are people entitled as well.

You put a limit on donations. An individual can donate no more than 25.00 to any candidate in any election cycle. A corporation wants to bundle from employees and donate...do it. But no corporation can donate 50.00 to any candidate in any election cycle.

What this does is make politicians think twice about where to spend time and who to work for. Want to spend time wining and dining the fat cats for 25.00 each ok. Do it. There's way more non fat cats than fats cats. While your time is spent increasing your calorie intake and fascinating your taste buds with expensive alcohol among the wealthy your competition is among thousands of non fat cats looking for their 25.00. Want to be in front of corporations for 50.00...have at it, competition is doing same thing with the regular people.

This suggestion has of course many issues and challenges to work out, but the truth is money is king in politics. You cannot get everyone wealthy so my suggestion is geared toward leveling the playing field and making it impossible to rely on a few to get into office. If you can't rely on a few to do that you can no longer work for the few either. Also poor communities get ignored? Forget it, even those not well off can normally come up with 25, poor communities would instantly get a lot more attention in that scenario because you need as many 25.00 donations as possible.

Again many issues to work out, politicians would never make it happen, but until you level the money playing field nothing will change. Actually can't believe I wrote that out as I am normally one who feels people should be entitled to do with their money what they want. But we can't keep having a few people buying laws and favors that benefit them and affects the rest of us.

I suppose it depends on what people deem to be reality, but I also appreciate the propaganda you have had to listen to for most of your lives, about the evils of socialism. I am not having a go at anybody in particular, but what is the reality here?

What you say makes perfect sense, but a Leopard doesn't change its spots, as my dear old Grandma would have said.

The political system here in the U.K is a different beast, thankfully, but I know there are certain individuals in the pockets of the corporations.

First time since I can remember in a long time that someone was able to get the Democrats and Republicans to agree on ANYTHING!

I know it's a pipe dream. But until this one thing is addressed in some way nothing else people fight for will matter. Even if it matters in the short term, it won't last. But you are dead on about spots not changing. Too bad, it that case voters can blame whoever they want, but it's our fault.

Not even proganda for me, it's really taking into account things like current debt..interest payments required on debt and what happens raising it. Budget, what socialism means as far as providing and what would be needed, population of the US. New revenue for the addtional money needed. Tpp and what that means businesses may do. Robotics coming online and what's that do for the base of people who will have jobs to pay taxes. Other forms of automation with same concern. A global economy looking shaky and how does that limit borrowing options. Not just increasing current funding and new programs to meet the cuurent needs but I've seen numbers as high as 200 trillion in unfunded liabilities on already made promises. And so on.

Not propaganda, not fear, it's simply the the ideas and promises of what a Sanders style socialism offers hitting reality head on.

The reality is, conservative capitalism and globalisation has brought about all the debt. The global corporations that were able to offer sustainable employment for generations have moved production overseas and with the advent of new technology, it certainly isn't going to produce jobs, apart from maintenance of the technology. And for what? Big fat profits, that just sit as numbers on a computer screen in some bank.

The reality is, the people didn't create the debt, yet are made to pay for it over and over and over.

7. Trump Tower was built by S&A Concrete, whose owners were “Fat” Tony Salerno, head of the Genovese crime family, and Paul “Big Paul” Castellano, head of the Gambinos, another well-known crime family.

If you did not know of their ownership, what does that tell voters about your management skills?

You don't build anything in New York without the Construction Unions which were controlled by the mob. If you wanted a building built, you payed the bribes, cost overruns and kick backs or nothing got done. It was business as usual.

Doesn't everyone know that? Thats Trumps big claim to fame, 'He'll get things done', business as usual.

Feel free to debate how we got here. It's all good. But we are here and considering where we are the Sanders style socialism will hit reality head on and reality will win. Considering what's coming there's no easy way to address the current situation and addresses what's coming let alone think we can implement a Sanders style socialism with any success or without vreating a ton more issues. It is what it is, we are where we are and just can't go where socialism wants to take us. But luckily we have noble, honest, smart politicians to solve all these problems and put us in a position to achieve this grand prize of socialism that some want.

It is funny when you think about it. The people who are our options to have as leaders. Yes I know it's all about who has the money and influence.

But it's the same all over the world, very few politicians or leaders are actually qualified in any way to run a country.

As the poster above joked, having pop stars as presidents really isn't unrealistic at all.

ScAry but true.

He might have known. There are probably a few canaries that might sing about Trump to get their sentence reduced, but after Sonny Gravano that's not likely to happen.

If it is true then he wouldn't have been the first campaigner to profit from the Mafia *cough cough Guliani cough cough*

But to identify what got us to where we are today, should be a starting point as to how to put things right. Allowing big corporations to dictate policy and the way in which countries are run will always have a negative effect, because we have all felt the ramifications of their actions, either directly or in-directly, personally or within communities.

Edit- Here in the U.K we have many foreign corporations making very large profits. They use our infrastructure in doing so, yet pay very little in taxes. The taxes that are used to maintain the infrastructure. Why should my taxes help these corporations in making these large profits?

I agree with that, but until that is addressed by something like what I proposed as far as very small limited donations even recognizing the cause will do nothing. As you said leporads don't change their spots. It's all related. Until that is addressed nothing going forward matters, recognizing what got us here doesn't matter and they are all linked. The end result being that we are in no position to successfully implement Sanders style socialism without many more problems being created. So if people want to focus on the cause or electing Sanders to compensate for it without fixing the issue leading to it. Look out, it's gonna be a bumpy ride. That cart before the horse issue.
