A team of physicists at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, has constructed and experimentally demonstrated a magnetic wormhole – an object that allows electromagnetic wave propagation between two points in space through an invisible tunnel.

I thought this was a good read. Moving in the right direction! T“Practical applications of the results can be envisaged, including medical techniques based on magnetism.”

Thinking outside the box. There could be many applications for this. Magnetic relays that can be triggered without wires. Think of a door locking. Or a relay attached to an electrical current. (security system) ect..

Mu-metals are pretty nifty but, it's not a wormhole, more like a waveguide.

The obvious application for this type of tech will be instantaneous travel to anywhere on Earth. I gotta ask, what happens to someone if they go into a Wormhole at one end but the magnet is cur off at the other end before they come out? Is that person lost at that point?

Spot on! There is another thread on ATS about this same "development."

These shapes can focus a magnetic field around them. So you place a magnet close to one, and it directs the magnetic field in a straight line to another shape, which then restores the magnetic field to it's original shape.

I can't see how the two spheres would know about each others presence otherwise.

Travel around the world nd back again in a second, then take a trip to the moon and mars. Thats just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm not sure how you pulled instantaneous transportation out of magnetic wormhole.

The theorized travel through space time in a worm hole is still a theory, worm holes themselves are still a theory although there are maths that seem to prove that their existence is plausible.

How ever, no naturally occurring wormhole has been with out a doubt proven to exist, nor has the ability to use them to leap from a point in time and space to another.

Once again, those wormholes and the wormholes discussed here in are entirely different.

The news relatively new.

This is mostly just a tunnel through an electromagnetic field. The energy to create a true wormhole even that tiny would be a staggering figure. It is theoretically possible to create a true wormhole by creating a self-sustaining black hole. Then you have to spin up this black hole at speeds approaching the speed of light.

Thank you.

Not sure why the other thread was posted in the space exploration forum. This technology has nothing to do with exploration or even a means of propulsion.

Regards,

Black holes , space, physics, go hand in hand. I supose. It could fit in both forums.
