As for M-A-U-...using your technical expertise, can you call to mind any technical term or acronym which logically might fit better or as well?

The link below has 7 acronyms that are technical but my question to you is why does MAU need to be technical?

acronyms.thefreedictionary.com...

I suppose it could be an unknown user's initials, as well...but my speculation is operating under the assumption that this is an IT administrator's address.

Do any of these seem like viable options for an IT specialist, to you?

Major Administrative Unit
Multi-station Access Unit
Media Access Unit
Media Attachment Unit
Monitoring and Advisory Unit
Memory Array Unit
Memory Access Unit

Why does it even have to be a users initials?
Outside of professional setting where naming conventions are common or obvious TOS violations with an ISP people use random words, codes, animals, objects , numbers and everything in between.

You know about IBM equipment? it is true , I Been Molested let the token ring die out 15 years ago . The problem with the token ring network was that if one device went out , they all did (token ring broadcast storm). I doubt Clinton's group were using ring topology.

Done a bit of digging and theres a company called mautic who do bit and bobs for things like email bounce management and other bits and bobs to do with email so perhaps its a reporting address where the mau software sends reports such as how many emails its bounced etc

MAUtic is an intersting system.
I could see how it might be used for tracking, info gathering and even campaigning.

A Mautic 'Super User' might be very dangerous to national security, given access to Hillary's government email system.

This is where things get interesting! Let’s walk through how Mautic can be used.

Imagine a new visitor comes to your website. They are an IP address, nothing more, maybe some basic geographic data. They browse pages on your website, eventually landing on a special page with a call-to-action form.

This form collects a few bits of information (e.g. name and email address). Now this visitor is now a known visitor.

You may have a lead list setup to capture these visitors and add them to a specific campaign. These campaigns will send emails, post to social media, and other actions based on either specific times or user interaction.

Think of it like a decision tree. If the user opens the email, do this, otherwise do that. These campaigns can span hours, days, weeks, or even months!

Now are you starting to see what’s happening? This known visitor is gradually becoming a lead. As this lead completes various actions, you give them points. These points help you to weight your leads and see which leads are hot. Once a lead earns a certain amount of points they are automatically moved into your CRM or other system. Now you have a list of leads you can confidently know are ready to be directly contacted.

Could it be mau_suit was the person assigned to monitor for specific "traffic" or "messages" or "intrusions" that signaled a "message received" trigger ?

As in "espionage".

Then the scrubbing of "evidence" commenced.

Just a note, as many people seem confused.

A "user" is a user.
A "Power user" is a user with extra privs, and can do basic things on the computer- more than browsing friendface.

A "Super user" is a linux term- "su" in linux is used to elevate a user session to "root" or administrative privileges- often used as the command "sudo $command", or 'super user do $command'

Anyone sufficiently nerdy enough to be running a mail server for some evil boogymen government type will likely also be keen on keeping track of changes, too- especially when there's more than one person accessing the box, and always the chance that someone will suddenly need to have all access revoked. I work in that world.

MAU are probably initials, or a codeword for a particular human that had access.
Of course, simply reviewing some of the emails from this account would make the discussion moot.

Shout out to my wonderful computer savvy friends here:
Of all of the KNOWN clinton email addresses, [email protected] is unique, in that there is an intentionally-placed space bar between mau and suit.

Any ideas why the separation should exclusively be used in this particular one and none of the others?

window.

^^^^^ that's "window".

Hmmmm.

codeword = window open - window closed

possible time frames for secret messages

like a mark on a mailbox - tape "X" in a window
