from what I've read no one likes this curriculum...but it seems we can thank Janet Napolitano for common core.
god bless the teachers that are so passionate in their jobs teaching our children.their hands are tied...I can't imagine how many good ones that have left over common core.

Although they only recently captured national attention, the Common Core standards – which lay out what students should know and be able to do by each grade – have been in the works since at least 2008. It all started with former Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, who was the 2006-07 chair of the National Governors Association and now leads the University of California system, says Dane Linn, a vice president of the Business Roundtable who oversees its Education and Workforce Committee.

While serving as chair, Napolitano wrote an initiative for the year, as every past chair had done and as every chair has since. According to Linn, who at the time was serving as director of the NGA's Educational Policy Division, Napolitano's initiative had a strong focus on improving math and science education, as well as the workforce.

link to article part of common core has roots in the "no child left behind"
everyone is confused and children are frustrated
I'm happy my kids are no longer in school, but also feel bad for those still dealing with trying to get their children a proper education...I recommend home schooling.

anyone interested in knowing more the damage that this will do to our children watch this video...

They teach this in So Cal schools. That's why anyone who can afford it sends their kid to a fully private or charter school.

In SoCal they don't use symbols though, just the sections separated by a line and the typical IIII marks. To me it is a disservice to children because it isn't teaching them to actually add and subtract in their head. It is the lowest common denominator and should only be taught in remedial classes.

Smart kids will be so bored that they get written up for behavioral issues.

The point of Common Core is to cater to the lowest common denominator that might be sitting in the classroom.

Infolurker stated:
"What the hell was that. Looks like a remedial special education."

He's right, that's exactly what it is...

Common Core caters to the lowest IQ among us. We may not all have an IQ of 100 (the average), but 99% of us have an IQ of at least 50. That's what Common Core means in it's design and implementation. Dumb it down so we are all equal, we are all taught at the same common core. Getting those with an IQ level of 60 to 110 is impossible; but getting a kid that would have had an IQ of 115 down to 70 is certainly attainable and inline with the vision of an equal society.

This is why Common Core curriculum advises parents not to help tutor their children; it's an "unfair" advantage to less advantaged children and hurts the cause of equality.

Welcome to the philosophy of equality comrades.

Lysergic said:
"Surely this isn't taught to the elites' children who attend private schools."

Exactly. And you can bet that those attending private schools will be putting the common core students to common work; so long as they have the government's endorsed permission (business permit) to do so. This is what we call fascism, mein fuhrer.

USSR equality with a dash of Mussolini technocracy meets German national socialism = America Today.

Those who either refuse or can't recognize that have already been gobbled up by the generational and systematic dumbing down of America society.
