I have no doubts that China covets what Russia has. I also tend to agree that China operates on a much longer time frame to enact and carry out their strategies and reach their goals. So perhaps, I will redact my former statement and revise with this: In the current context, China would be ill advised to pursue conflict with Russia. It's forays into the East and South China Seas have made it's seaside underbelly exposed, whilst they feign strength. (Sun Tzu/Hence the whole idea of the island chain fortification)It is essential for them to solidify the tenuous hold they have, lest they lose out on vital resources and room for expansion for their exploding populace. To open a front of sorts with Russia, a border neighbor, would be folly, as I am sure they are aware. Russia would not wait around letting 1 million men invade without going nuclear, at least on a tactical level.No, I'm guessing the plan is to wait out the current batch of crises' and see who is still standing. Then they can deal with whoever is left. Until then though, Russia and China BFF.
My two cents.

if they have a satellite black out or even a looped feed, over obama's site in alaska and a secure zone around the area, they could feasibly land their forces under his protective umbrella, set up shop and no one would be the wiser. keep tabs on your friends in alaska.

An amphibious vessel..!?!

The warships are escorts, the amphibious vessel would be the main ship of the group, which means both troops and armour are possibly being unloaded.

I think China taking over the US would better the world. If it were just for the US to stop trying to control the world (and destroying it in the process).

Wasn't a Russian ship also spotted operating off the coast of Florida the same day?

Did we end up knowing how far they were from US territory and when they were spotted first?

EDIT: found this on zerohedge, it seems they got up to 12 nautical miles off US coasts.

Wouldn't be surprised if China again reveal another "old" map showing that they used to own these waters and just trying take it back.

The US Navy travels all over the globe. What's the concern?

In the cold war, the Soviets used surface convoys to mask the passage of submarines beneath them. They also did it fairly regularly with Soviet fishing fleets near the US coast. This could be a maneuver by China to relocate a number of those diesel subs as the passive ASW in the straight is tough to pass through without a detection.

china has attempted to lay claims to parts of the Arctic and those claims have been rejected by all bordering countries considering China does not have a coast line with the Arctic Ocean.

It was nothing more than an attempt at a resource grab.. Just like they are trying to do in the S. China sea.

5 Ships is not force protection, something the Chinese fail to understand.

They already pivoted towards their East which is why the US pivoted West.

Well from what I have read ( I linked last post) China is now indeed an Observer and we NEED them to particpate as we need their money. They have already invested tons of research in the area and I provided links.

The President acting dumb as to why they are there just shows how ignorant he thinks the people are...and well... frsnkly... he understands why he cannot come out and tel the real reason or the future plans.

If we all understood what they have in store we would probably do nothing as they are extremely good at keeping us distracted, divided, and scared.

I wish people would wake up and stop being so damn naive.

The arctic will provide an economic rising in all countries involved.

The EU must be pissed though. They are preventing them from eating a piece of the pie.
