As much as never being in a car makes you less likely to be involved in an car accident and not owning knives makes you less likely to be cut,
sure.
The "statistic" used by fools to make that claim is simply "people with guns are more likely to have an accident with a gun."
In other news, if you work with or live around elephants, you are more likely to be injured by an elephant.
A more honest way to look at the statistics would be "in instances where a person was a potential victim of violent crime, were they safer with a gun
or without a gun?"
