The 777-9X has entered the detailed design phase of the program. Boeing confirmed in a video today that the 777X will have 20% more wing area, with
significantly more flexible wings to allow more efficiency.
The next part of the design phase includes detailed designs at the part and assembly level, as well as hydraulic, electric, and pneumatic sub
assemblies.
So far the program is on schedule, meeting the deadline set two years ago.
I still think they ought to put us in medically-induced comas and load us on planes like cargo. It would be more efficient -- they could get more
people on a plane that way.
It was unveiled to the biggest opening order in history a couple years ago. There were 259 orders and commitments worth $95B on day one. There are
currently 306 firm orders.
That's up to the airlines. Boeing plans on starting deliveries around 2020 and it will be up to the airline when they put them into service and take
delivery of them.
