They are not for hunting or home defense

Mine is for home defense. There's nothing saying that guns have to be only used for home defense or hunting anyway. Guns are fun, target shooting is fun. AR15s are great sporting rifles, and great home defense rifles as well.

This is America. Not everyone lives in an apartment. Some people have quite a bit of property, and a shotgun or pistol is only going to be able to effectively engage someone at a certain range (and accuracy is going to be laughable depending on certain factors). There has been a lot of discussion on whether or not it's safer to use an AR with appropriate ammo or shotguns for home defense. I'm in the AR camp.

I'm a good shot with a pistol, but no one is going to be as accurate with a pistol as they can be with a rifle. An AR isn't going to over penetrate walls nearly as easily as most people think. It has far less recoil than a shotgun, so is manageable for smaller folks or those with certain disabilities. Yes, in many circumstances 30 rounds is going to be too many, but there are some instances where it's not, you're not guaranteed one shot one kill, and being able to keep going bang without reloading is going to be a lifesaver, especially compared to a shotgun that's a pain to load quickly. Real life isn't a movie.

Who cares if WalMart sells them or they're available somewhere else? You are aware that gun shops exist, right? It's not easier to get a gun from WalMart. You go through the same process. It may be slightly more expensive to pick one up from an independent shop, but not much more expensive.

Don't fall for the scary looking military rifle crap. Either admit you don't know what you're talking about, or learn about it and if you feel the same way be ridiculed for being stupid as opposed to just ignorant.

I do support other weapons and guns to be owned by people to defend themselves from attackers in general and the government.

You clearly don't. You think muskets are going to be effective against people armed with automatic rifles, military or civilian?

You do know the difference between semi-auto, and fully auto, right?

Something tells me all the responses of who cares from gun owners on this board wasn't quite what the op was looking for.

It wasn't. There are some guns people should not have. The gun owners flood with tiny differences. That was not the point.

You are the one who said there are some guns people should not have. Why don`t you just answer?

Please specify which ones people should not have.

That oversteps the poi nt of this thread.

You said it,back it up with facts.

That seemed to be your whole point since the start of the thread.

Saw it a mile off.

Banning things should be banned.
As should people who ban things.

The Pew-Pew Mark 5000 is a dangerous gun. It fires bullets. And is black.

I shouldn't own it.

But is does come with a cup holder.

I think this is long overdue. And for Conservatives out there, Ronald Reagan supported this long ago.

Ugh such ignorance

Americans having guns was NEVER about hunting or home defense

They are and always will be a way to defend ourselves from a corrupt government

And the way things seem to b headed we will all need a LOT more and powerful guns and ammo to stop the nonsense our government is pushing

To whom it may concern:

While we all sit at home and watch the next mass shooting coverage on TV and Republicans just wonder why we don't want everybody to have a gun? Why we don't want to give you the power to kill us when you talk about killing people who break into your home?

You have these fantasies about five or six men just breaking your home and it's all insane talk... All sounds very bloodthirsty and disturbing. You go around waving the damn confederate Flag and spout online about Jesus and whatnot while bragging about how tough you are. You all sound crazy.

And it is all crazy. You've just invested all this time and energy into worrying about something that is not gonna happen. And if it does happen it's definitely not gonna happen the way you want.

I also don't know who you think you guys are? Action heroes is my guess. Bruce Willis waiting to happen.

(Ignore if you don't identify with my post. It was a general post addressing a hypothetical person. Or rather personality.)

I have to take issue with some of the comments made in this thread, so I will not respond to any one person.

First, Wal Mart did not sell automatic AR's. They were semi-auto. The link to Reagan's assault weapons ban is a bit disingenuous.

The amount of ammo in the firearm is irrelevant. What matters is the skill of the user and their ability to use it effectively.

An AR-15 or any other firearm "designed for war" is only deemed so by the way it looks. There are many other firearms available that do much more damage that do not look like it came out of a game of COD, and are not covered by assault weapons bans.

What works for one person in home defense or hunting may not work for the person next door. Each person has their preference and ability. It is not our place to judge.

AR does not stand for assault rifle.....end of story.

And finally it's none of our business what someone else wants to own or purchase. We have a 2nd amendment right in this country and we are just as much within our right to own them as it is your right to not to.

You would figure with the evil right wingers attempting to take away all rights and implementing a theocracy or the evil left wingers attempting to take away all rights and implement socialism the true believers on either side of the isle would understand that one thing giving both of these evil groups a problem is the hundreds of millions of legally owned weapons in this country.
