So large parts of training is wasted on party indoctrination. While other training is more geared towards parades, photo ops and videos instead of real training.

This is a key tenet of communist regimes -- nationalism is what the communist use to distract its people from domestic problems. It is what keeps the people subjugated and, indeed, what makes them so easy to spoil for war when the leaver is pulled.

So, as wasteful as it seems, it's actually one of the greatest strengths of such regimes -- fundamentalist indoctrination towards a perceived cause:

'The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting. ' -Sun Tzu, The Art of War

It is in many way a odd hybrid of forces most of which are poorly armed and trained and at the technology level they were in WW2, then you have its Navy and Air Force which are mostly cold war relics and then ad in a modern missile and rocket force.

I'm unsure as to how true or even verifiable this is (it's not like China post their military armipotence to the letter -- we didn't even know how many nukes they had stowed until a Georgia university project uncovered how far off in fact the West's presumptions were). The "cavalry" thing sounds more 'modern' day North Korea than anything representational of China. More of stock standard 'pinko slight' than realistic, 2015 military analysis.

Even if we assume China do have a lopsided military structure - say, more suited to ensconced, siege warfare than projected aggression - the fact remains that they've been stealing Western tech for years; especially since the advent of the Internet. So, that F-117 in Bosnia, the stealth chopper in Pakistan, the hacked Lockheed Martin et al. tasty titbits must surely be factored into any guesstimations of China's potential. Couple that with the much cosier Sino-Russo relationship the U.S. has all but played cupid to - which would likely lead to Russki technological nous spilling into the Middle Kingdom - and you have the means for any shortfalls in specific areas to be more than made up for by others; and in perhaps more integral departments -- e.g., cyber warfare, nuclear delivery capacity, space / satellite -based threats etc.

Finally, future wars between international adversaries won't be fought with helicopters (or horses!), rather computers -- weapons which are not monopolised by the West, as past, state-of-the-art arms largely were.

No ,we kill eastern forces at 10 to 1 odds with our conventional weapons ALL the time.
It's why we win so much, NOT just the tech.

An IGNORANT POTUS however gets MANY more killed as he favor's the enemy over his "own", time and time again,by micro-management ,screwd up ROEs and prosecuting those who attempt to save their own forces.

It would indeed be a bold and stupid move to even consider such a weapon.

Though we hate to think of the possibilities, most of us are Momma's baby, Papa's maybe. Few can with complete accuracy, trace our genetic bloodlines, so a race based biological weapon, is a sure way to wipe out the planet, especially with an agent as unstable as a virus.

How does killing thousands of innocent, poor and struggling people, here in America, China or anywhere else, change any of the problems we face each day? What is our goal? What do we hope to achieve by killing people in other countries? What is it that is worth your life, the life of your children or loved ones? They tell us they are our enemy; if this is true, why? What have I done to make them hate me? We are smart enough to know the truth, it is just so stomach wrenching to have to look at the truth for what it is.

The people that are supposed to be our enemy are most likely a lot worse off than we are. They have legitimate excuses for believing the lies and the bullcrap that is being dispensed by their leaders. Most have no television, computers, smart phones or libraries to allow them the opportunity for looking beyond what they are being told.

The struggle to provide sustenance, I won’t call it food, for themselves and family, takes up almost all their time. The rest of the time is spent trying to provide a safe place for their loved ones to lay their head for the night. Sleep is always scarce when you have to remain ever vigilant of intruders, whether they come on two legs or four. They don’t have the luxury of the internet at their fingertips or ATS, they have to believe what their leaders tell them, elsewise, the conditions of their world would make no sense.

We know better, but to believe otherwise makes us responsible. It forces us to see ourselves for what we truly are. A group of people that are afraid. Afraid to believe and afraid not to believe, but more afraid of losing what we think we have. Afraid to standup when we know by not doing so will seal our fate just as surely as fighting back; it just makes it feel like it is buying us some time. Time is running out and it is not showing us favor. The problems of our world are not going to end with war. The only end to be seen will be the death of our world. Problems will continue to exist, just maybe not for us.

Dude, Afghanistan was a joke. They don't even have proper aircraft's. It is all about air superiority. WW2 Germany and USA had equal air superiority until Germans supplies ran low due to sabotages. When you say Eastern forces you mean low tech countries like Middle East. If you look at middle eastern soldiers they don't have helmets or bulletproof armor. You are comparing fully armed soldiers(US) against not so fully armed.

I like your style dude... Finally someone who realizes that it's not about these 'superpowers' fighting each other, as they are in bed together of course. Any war between the three has been orchestrated, as the actual 1% (not billionaires) have got everything running perfectly, maybe apart from the internet...

We all argue about the semantics, when in fact the problem lies much, much further up. Although they keep us busy with Kardashians arse and all the ISIS crises! I also don't get the hate for Obama, when realistically do you think he would even be able to do what he wants? He's merely a puppet/figurehead being told what to do.

If only people looked deeper...

Firstly, the super powers don't and will never fight any conventional war against each other in our modern day era. They now conduct there wars though international economics and the media.

But still, the US military is extremely dependent on both satellites and its aircraft carriers and China has demonstrated it's perfectly capable of taking both out.

So yeah... lets just hope it never comes to conventional warfare... lol.

I bet the great majority of the citizens of North Korea wish little Kim would try so they could finally be free from this despot!
