Doesn't the market have a failsafe if it drops too fast?

Doesn't it shut down (or something) if it reaches 10%?

Thanks in advance if someone can expand on this.

I looked into this for a few minutes and the NYSE stopped it's circuit breaker in November of 2007 (at the first indication of last major correction, FYI). I do recall there was a break sometime late in 2008, probably September or early October.

They'll shut it down when the Dow30 goes down around -1100

Could happen any minute.

This is crazy. I'm supposed to get ready for work but I can't seem to walk away from the TV and ATS.

Market only open an hour, too!

Just a side note, isn't this what we've been saying since, forever?

The market has not held a true reflection of the economy.

Now it is.

The gild is coming off the lily.

This market is an options traders dream. Buy puts on the way down and calls on the way back up and make money the whole time. The only issue is competing with the large institutional investors.

Ya we're still way above the numbers we had back in 2013. I don't see the market hitting rock bottom any time soon. But it's always interesting to watch the sharp drops. The start of this trade day loos so long and steep it looks like an error.

All the electronic orders and computerized trading don't help. I'm sure the pro's had tons of short sale orders and put orders in, which contributed to that huge drop, and then the reverse was done, causing the market to gain back about 50% of that drop so far.

Shanghai composite minutes in down another 6.4%. Not good.

I'm expecting this to reflect in the futures trading going south by morning, but we'll see.
