This Windows 10 screencap image has been floating around showing some of the questionable MS "telemetry" they collect, but even so that doesn't touch the NSA and it's long-standing history of Windows backdoors.

Great, and I just downloaded the free upgrade 2 weeks ago.

You'll be fine Werpy. There are a few youtube videos that will walk you through shutting off some of the features, should you want to do so. It's funny everyone is having fits about Win10, but they all carry a smartphone that does everything Win10 does and more. As I pointed out earlier, and Blackmarketeer pointed out just above. All Windows versions had privacy issues and backdoors. It's old news, just a newer OS.

Thank you for providing that information to us. I don't have Windows 10 and I will wait and try something else. Apparently your information will shut up the one's on here that made claims Katherine Albrecht just made up this crap.

Who said she made all this up? I haven't seen anyone say that. What we said is it's nothing new. It's same old, same old. Your earlier versions of Windows and Mac OS have the same problem. Always have.

Thank you for the information I will pass this along to my friends. Most of them have no idea and I didn't know either.

Funny though, I had a Censers document mailed to me the other day from the government and threw it in the trash. I figured the government has enough information on me and my house.

I did not know that all the windows OS had back doors. And I am sure most people don't know that.
There are a few on this thread who implied she was not credible by saying that I believe that all YouTube information are facts.
Apparently you didn't read all the posts in this thread.

If true this is pretty awful invasion of privacy, not that it would be anything new.
If anything lends legitimacy to what she says it's the number of people in this thread attacking her education and qualifications.
She's been around the block and is well-versed in digital tracking and eavesdropping.
I had to laugh though when I did a yahoo search (by accident, would never use it)
It came up with this on the 3rd line:

I read them all. I just don't pay a lot of attention to people who attack only the source, instead of the information. You shouldn't either. Not that any of us are innocent. I'm just saying some of the criticism made by Katherine and others of Win10 can be said of previous operating systems as well. I'm not a defender of MS. Quite the contrary. I've been very critical of them.

The really bad guys are probably not using an off-the-shelf OS like Windows but I tend to think the NSA has the processing power to sift through everything, and maybe they can't crack that really bad guys invulnerable PC, but they get lucky cause once in a while he (or she) Skypes some flunky (or that flunky Skypes with an even lower flunky) with weak security protocols, and they are In like Flynn.

Regarding Win10, a big complaint is surfacing that it downloads massive amounts of data (without asking), and is blowing peoples data limits out of the water, and deletes software it finds suspect (without asking), like pirated stuff (which is okay I suppose), but also deletes files some privacy advocates use to protect their privacy, because MS views these files as some sort of threat.

'Free' Windows 10 Makes Expensive Software Changes (Forbes.com)

MS says you can stop or turn off these automatic downloads, either (Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 Updates Cannot Be Stopped). So is that all your Windows 10 PC doing, just downloading gigs and gigs of "updates?" I think we know the answer to that.

Shutting down pirated software? Bummer. Suing over it?
Your source:

The bad news is this is theoretically possible. The good news is I’d say it is pretty unlikely.

Xbox Live has long used updates to track down and disable pirated Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles – much like Apple AAPL -5.66% closing jailbreak loops in iOS – but Microsoft has never shown any interest in pursuing matters further.

Here MS has the ability to track and shut down/disable pirated Xbox's just as Apple can disable jailbreaked iOS's, but they choose not to - maybe the reason is that there is no monetary incentive to do that, and the feds would certainly not have any incentive to disable pirated/jailbreaked devices, as those are the types much more likely to be used by criminals. Allow those devices to stay active and the backdoor also stays active.

Actually, they did. That's what the article you posted says.

There are a few ways to handle Auto updates...
Turn off Automatic Updates in Services, or use the Show or hide updates troubleshooter.

Personally, I think MS may back off of some of their draconian tactics, given a little time, but it seems they just had to push the envelope, and see how far they could go. If they don't, their will be plenty of third party software to disable/enable what we want/don't want. There always has been.

ETA: Took me a few to find this. Thought you might find it interesting. How to set metered connections and disable Windows 10 update delivery optimization

I have to wonder if Microsoft is working for NSA. Most people know our government cannot be trusted.
Does the government believe that most people are criminals?
Do they believe we are terrorist?

Or is it a way to monitor our activities so that there are no uprising against a Tyrannical government.

More likely a marketing tool. Similar to Google's gathering of user data.
They're more interested in making money than supporting any government.
