LOL it's funny. What's scary is that the "far right wing" folks employ that kind of doublespeak. Dare I say that Orwell predicted it all too well?

Again, this is the European axis at work. Back in the days of the rise of European fascism, it was an ideology competing with communism for traction. Since both are essentially collectivist ideologies that end up at tyranny that differ only in organization details. No matter which we are talking about, individual liberty and personal rights are more or less subsumed to the power of the state.

So, in order to differentiate themselves, they labeled one "left" and the other "right." European politics largely swings back and forth between these two extremes with the most actual individual freedom in the middle.

In the US, we were Founded far differently as a Constitutional Republic based on maximal personal/individual liberty and minimal government, just enough to hold it all together barely. That is our "right," not the European one although we went through our period of flirtation with fascism during the Great Depression. FDR himself thought that fascism was the way of the future and he was pushing us that way ... too bad for him that Hitler was ... well Hitler and discredited fascism and the European right so thoroughly.

It is, of course, very convenient for the progressives to confuse the issue of the two right-wings. It doesn't help that the KKK and Neo-Nazi groups exist and persist in this country and world-wide, but they are hardly the same or even have similar aims to the traditional, American Classical liberal minarchists who are the first American right.

BINGO! You are saying that fascism is not far left as the OP and article suggested.

Your whole post destroyed the OP and the article.

Not really, anything that talks about total government control in the US is left because the original far right axis is minarchism.

Please, explain to me how fascism is minarchist.

Explain how a concept developed in 1971 influenced the Framers again?

No. The original American right wing were monarchists loyal to Britain. Many of these Tories fled to Canada or the Caribbean. The Constitution was written by leftists who rejected the supremacy of the Church and Crown. They believed that laws should be written by men, based on Reason. The American right still believes in the authority of the Church. Genuine Libertarians value individual freedoms over institutions, making them Liberals in the truest sense of the term.

Monarchy can be liberal; the Whigs installed impotent rulers during the "Glorious Revolution," turning Britain into a liberal representative democracy in all but name.

Not sure what you are trying to say but I think you do agree with me.

Minarchism (also known as minimal statism) is a political philosophy and a form of libertarianism. It is variously defined by sources. In the strictest sense, it holds that states ought to exist (as opposed to anarchy), that their only legitimate function is the protection of individuals from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud, and that the only legitimate governmental institutions are the military, police, and courts. In the broadest sense, it also includes fire departments, prisons, the executive, and legislatures as legitimate government functions.[1][2][3] Such states are generally called night-watchman states.

Isn't that what we all want?

I don't know. After reading through all the posts, I can come to one conclusion. America is no longer a united states. Now it is pick your tribe. Like what happens in the ME.

As to the question "is fascism right or left?". "Depends on who you ask."

No it does not. Words have meaning. Fascism is a specific politico-economic system. The word you are thinking of is "authoritarian," and that, too has a specific meaning, but can be applied equally to governments on both the left and right.

And it has nothing to do with either fascism OR socialism OR communism, all of which are statist ideologies.

The American right wing is not any of the three above.

They have been brainwashed into thinking it means something else for them. In a true fashion on this conspiracy theory site we expect something like this.

it was a joke. No one wants fascism connected to their preferred side of the political spectrum. If you're on the left, push it to the right. If you're on the right, push it to the left.

I do not understand you. Do you agree or not agree with the OP and the article he included in his OP?

Do you or do you not agree that fascism is far left? I wonder if you actually agree with me more than you know.

A specious claim if I've ever seen one.

I guess I'm not that bright.

I still see people arguing and I'm not sure why.

If an individual in under the yoke of an oppressive government, does it really matter what type of oppression it is?

The answers/solutions are all the same. You get rid of the oppressors.

So you don't think supporting legislation that would prevent same sex couples from getting married is not a Statist infringement of personal liberties? How about rezoning Congressional districts to disenfranchise members of specific ethnic groups? Attempting to make access to birth control more difficult in order to appease the Church? What American Right are you thinking about? (Oh, and let's not forget feeding the Military Industrial Complex!)

That's where you are wrong! There are proud Fascist movements out there; they simply don't use the label because the Fascists lost the last European war.

Hello? Isn't that what some of us are doing? The right wing folks are the ones who are the oppressors.

Do you want equality? Freedom? Progress?

GASP! Those evil leftists! Them oppressors!
