Explosion at Bronx high school, multiple injuries

This just now hit the wire so not much is known yet. At least three injured, FDNY (God bless those guys) are on scene. Authorities and witnesses confirm there was an explosion and a fire as a result but so far the cause is unknown.

Hopefully (sad that this is the better alternative) this is simply an indication of crumbling infrastructure and not something more serious.

The explosion was possibly related to natural gas. An official said contractors were working on a nearby gas line. Con Edison dispatched a crew to investigate and has shut down gas to the building.

@ blue - glad (again, sad that that's the better option here) that's the direction they're leaning.

What is this, national explosion week or something? Either something fishy is going on or the media wants us to focus explosions for some reason. Either way, good to know this happened at night.

You can never rule out jihadist in this day and age, but the NYPD is the one police department who constantly monitors them, worldwide. So if any police department is going to be on guard against foreign terrorists its the NYPD.

Sadly that was a poor joke.

Update: De blasio says Chemistry department at school where contractors where working something terrible went wrong. They were working on the school for several months.

It is common to do construction work after hours when school is in session.

Luckily we just got done on a local school with a few weeks to go. My boss was talking about working nights after the kids were gone.

God's always mad about something.

The explosion damaged three different floors of the building. One of the floors sustained very heavy damage.

One victim is critical, the other two are in serious condition. All suffered burns.
