I've noticed that when I check my account and profile.

Never thought of asking.

Just assumed it was a mobile phone thing.

Edit: on Safari, if it's relevant.

Original image as uploaded by Charlie is 750 X 1334 Pixels which is outside avatar parameters. I believe SO fixed this by auto-resizing images when posted in threads (hence Charlies full pic within threads) but appears that this was not carried over to the profile page.

Thanks Sublime I'll change it to fit regulations now, but I have to say I've had this problem with all my avatars.
Even those within boundaries. (I don't know how to check boundaries I'm not just flaunting the rules)

Cheers.

You can post new threads in the Introductions forum.
Elsewhere, you have to wait until you have posted twenty replies to threads (that can include making replies to the people who respond to your Introduction thread).
