If more parents were like you, we wouldn't have the student apathy that is so prevalent in schools today. Some parents don't realize it, but they play a huge role in their kids education and their future successes.

You definitely can't always trust what your kids say during their teen years. There's just too much peer pressure and distractions during their middle and high school years. I can't begin to tell you how many parents are surprised to find out how their son or daughter acts in the classroom when they come to parent/teacher conferences.

Different states have different quality educations. On the last round of PISA tests every state submitted their scores so come Dec 2016 we'll have the first indication of how each state stacks up internationally. Right now though Massachusetts and Connecticut rank within the top 10 school systems in the world while Florida is below some nations without official schooling systems. In Mississippi 33% of adults (down from 40% under the previous governor) are considered illiterate. Education is a problem but it's not a universal one. If I had to guess Kansas has a poor system as well considering they can't even fund the schools. In Ohio it doesn't seem too bad, the teachers have to graduate the occasional person that can't read but that's less than 1% of the class.

As far as common core goes, only the math standards are out right now and they do teach how to solve a problem quickly and efficiently in your head.

Maybe a comparison of school rankings in Kansas will explain some of their problems.

Look at the ranking from bottom to top and see where the failed systems are.

I bet most failures are in Democrat run areas.

I think the State money is equal per student and the failure is at local levels.

Look what happened to Detroit retirees?
Loss of healthcare, pension cuts, loss of COLA.

Chicago has similar money problems....and if they don't bite the bullet now....and make voluntary cuts.....they will get screwed just like the pensioners in Detroit...while the banksters walk away smiling.
