"Mr Serdyukov"

There was a saying in Russia that Igor Gaidar destroyed the economy in 1990s and Serdyukov will destroy the military in 2010s.

It took a corruption blame of $100M to kick Serdyukov out. He was bent on reducing the VDV and similar elite branches. A former furniture salesman had no business in the military anyways.

Biggest problem Russian military has is they can't let go of Soviet doctrine. There officers were trained on it. Other problem is just a basic lack of concern for their troops. People go in for their one year co script their experience is so bad they vow never to return. This only leaves the ones who are incapable that remain. Russia never figured out how important it is to provide housing and benefits to enlisted to make them want to stay.

I would agree to most of the points here. Even now, a regular soldier in Russian Army is treated like a slave and ill taken care of. This comes from the Tsarist culture of last several hundred years. Concepts of field kitchen, field hospitals, general basic amenities (that western soldiers take for granted) are in a luxury bracket. Even soldiers who came to fight in Ukraine under the Novorossiya flag were cheated out of their extra salaries promised for "what so called" overseas exercises.

Also, Russia has severely lagged behind in training matters with only elite units at any par or near par to the west. There was a corruption scandal exposed in the Elite Pilots base where a chunk of their bonuses for being "top line" squadrons were taken by the base commander. Worst of all this base commander had the approval to do so by none other than the Chief of the Ru Air Force.........Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin. That is very shameful for such senior officers to approve the "pickpocketing" of servicemen bonuses. Putin dispatched Zelin as soon as the fact came out.

Which is why all the attempts at reform in the military, and converting to a more Western style military have failed. Corruption can be so rampant in the military that it's not funny. There were reports that the explosives from the reactive armor on the T-80 tanks were removed from the armor, and sold on the black market, leaving the armor useless.

Y'all do got the biggest gats on the planet.

Countries that got no choice but to rely on young Miss United States and her fast ass, Police woman of the first, second and third worlds. See, we simply request OUR oil, ahead of schedule. And we just might drop some scuds on your ass too. We don't give a #, 'Long as we got the biggest gats on the planet. Cause we've been... blowing up other people's # up since before it was a trend.

Agree with Abe Froman.. more Cold War, more Bond movies. And bring back the silly British Bond, Roger Moore style. I read they changed Bond for foreign audiences like China because they don't get the British humour.

From Russia, and many places. Simply look up reports on the T-80 in combat and you'll find them. They are many.

I have we don't do that as a policy.
LOGIC clearly shows we only destroy ,never occupy with skill.
If you are citing the passed ,well ,I am talking about THIS millenia actually.

Probably would have helped that you made that a little clearer then and at least one of the areas covered is stil technically an American colony.

Destroying isn't really something to be proud of though.

We KEEP getting compared to Nazis and called an Empire,it's like they DON'T know what those are...

Only by those with no clue about what they're talking about or just slinging mud.

Fact of the matter is, the US took over the role of "world policeman" from the UK (and to a lesser extent France) when we exhausted ourselves fighting actual Nazi's and fascists in the Second World War. Given that one power or another is bound to be top dog, I'd rather it be the US than someone else, like Russia or China who value human life and freedom as cheap, throwaway concepts.

And thanks for the fracking too - fuel is almost as cheap as it was a decade ago..

but a well equipped, motivated, and well trained force....LOL...NOT.

Well equipped, motivated and trained?

Russia's screwed then....

The only thing - and it the sole reason, nothing else - that the US could not annihilate Russia (on it's own, not even considering any other NATO nations that might want to pile in) is the Russia nuclear stockpile.

It's regular forces are a joke. Compared to NATO, Russia is out manned, outgunned, out trained and under equipped.

China is still a commie mindset despite having free market exposure for last 2 decades are more and despite being one nation that benefited the most from free economy. They might have upgraded their military in terms of advanced equipment and more training but still lag behind in technology which they love to steal from US or copy from Russia.

Instead of being solid power within its borders, China is bent on spreading its influence unnecessarily in S-E Asia and will feel spent up at some point.

And Putin doesn't want NATO bombs on his borders anymore than the USA wants Russian bombs in Mexico, or Cuba for that matter.

It's as though American's completely forget about the Cuban missile crisis.

This is not about Ukrainian sovereignty, this is about bombs on borders.

If Ukraine can join NATO apart from a military alliance then Putin should accept their sovereignty like the US was forced to accept Cuba's sovereignty.

But why would Putin accept anything less than Americans accepted during the Cuban missile crises?

Because today none of that matters. Both sides have SSBNs with enough nukes to wreck everything and they can park them right off the coast. And Ukraine tried to join NATO once and was rejected. After that it had no interest in doing and had no popular support until now. Russia has pushed everybody towards NATO even people who had no interest before.

Except Ukraine is the reason things are happening as they are.

You see the problem between Russia and NATO was because of Ukraine...NATO and Russia were in good standings and Russia even had their own representative based at NATO headquarters, so to say it isn't about Ukraine you are truly mistaken.
