www.ibnlive.com...

A top Chinese military general, who led an opulent lifestyle, was on Monday given a suspended death sentence, the first conviction of about 40 high-level army officials currently under investigation as part of President Xi Jinping's high-profile campaign against graft.
Gu Junshan, former deputy head of the General Logistics Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), was found guilty of embezzlement, accepting bribes, misuse of state funds, bribery and abuse of power, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Well, one wonders if this was done to every corrupt individual the planet would be a lot better place *looks at the Banksters*

I can't even imagine. Post Reagan-Era things have just gotten more and more corrupt in the West. Scary times...

While I despise corruption of all types.

I think prison is a more suitable punishment than death.

Maybe the scary thing is that China did this and the West doesn't have the guts or willingness to go after high level positions that are corrupt.

Oh, I don't know about that. Look at all of the high military officers that Obama has taken down over the years. 'Course, there supposedly are other reasons for the hits, such a disloyalty, but on the face of it he is attacking corruption of various sorts.

The Western militarizes do not have corruption at this level. It is more of hey I hired retired general/admiral for lots of money so we know what the military is looking for and how much they are willing to pay per a unit when the next bomber competition comes up so we have a leg up. It is certainly skeezy but, not like what you find in China.

In China you have a weird mix of military and commercial interests. You basically had the military running farms, hotels, and other companies that supported the PLA. So say a the PLA owned farms that provided food to troops or a hotel where soldiers would stay. Between 1990 and 2000 the Government ended this practice officially because the officers running them were more interested in making a profit than doing right by the military. However, that did not really fix things because retired officers took over the business and conspired with active officers to makes sure the businesses kept making money at the expense of the military so that when the active officers retire they can take over and do the same. The Chinese have been trying to crack down on this but, it is so wide spread it will take some serious action to stop it.

Granted the Chinese have it much better than the Russians where corruption is terrible from top to bottom. With units faking out rosters to pocket money, selling equipment on the black market, getting kick backs from contractors who never do the work or do a very shoddy job of it. Now Russia really needs a crack down but, it never seems to happen.
