Windows 10 "How To" : Disable Cortana and Telemetry in three manual steps.

It could be just me but I can't watch the video, it states that it has been removed by the user.
A script of the video would be nice if at all possible.

AIO means = all in one. (i.e Home Edition, Pro Edition etc on one DVD) Has nothing to do with modding.
And the "warez mod proper activator" thingy is the Daz Windows Loader which activates your illegal downloaded windows.
Or a perfectly legal version of Windows, but you dont happen to have a licence. So the windows itself isnt a "warez mod" its a real genuine windows. It is the activator that allows it to become, well, activated.

and yes, you can upgrade to win 10 on an illegally activated windows 7.
Win 10 just sees that win 7 is activated, it doesnt see the difference between a legal activation, or a Windows Loader (which installs in ways you probably have no idea about, part of it is actually installed inside your bootloader on the bootsector of your harddrive.) Not eniterly kosher, that code.
Sure it works, ive used it myself.

Most videos on youtube doesnt cover it all, they just cover some of it and doesnt do it thouroghly enough.

Ill write a guide for you here later on, step by step, what to do, to completely and down to the core, remove any and all spying capabilites.

I think it's awfully nice of you to go out of your way, to take the time to try and help others for no other reason than to help people. Very nice of you.

I'm not techy at all, but know a little. I know nothing of win10, but I'm getting prompted to update to 10 from my rather new laptop-which is win8.1 I like my laptop the way it is and I'm nervous about going to 10, but I've heard that if I don't, that what I have now will stop with the auto updates and such. I wonder how long I can continue with my 8.1 without compromising it's safety.. can you answer that for me?

What's your personal opinion .. should I go to 10 or can I wait awhile??

How to disable Telemetry and Data Collection in Windows 10
Windows 10 now comes with the telemetry feature enabled by default which collects all sorts of user activity and sends it to Microsoft. Unfortunately, Microsoft has provided no way to disable it completely using the Settings app for Home and Pro editions of Windows 10. Only Enterprise users can turn it off. Here is a solution for editions other than Enterprise to disable Telemetry and Data Collection in Windows 10.
As you use Windows 10, Microsoft will collect usage information.
All its options are available in Settings -> Privacy - Feedback and Diagnostics.

To disable Telemetry and Data Collection in Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro, you need to do the following:

1. Open Registry Editor.
2. Go to the following Registry key:​ ​HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsDataCollection
3.There you need to create a new a 32-bit DWORD value named AllowTelemetry and set it to 0.
​
Now, you need to disable a couple of Windows services. Right click the File Explorer item in Windows 10 Start menu and pick Manage from its context menu:
​Go to Services and Applications -> Services in the left pane.
In the services list, disable the following services:

​Diagnostics Tracking Service
dwmappushsvc

Double click the mentioned services and pick "Disabled" for the startup type:
You need to restart Windows 10 for changes to take effect.
Tip: it is a good idea to check out rest of the options in the Settings app - >Privacy.
This should prevent Windows 10 from spying on you.

HERE IT IS. ENJOY.

1.) Do Not login with a Microsoft Live account. Use a local administrator account.

2.)open up GPEDIT.MSC
>Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components

>>Data Collection and Preview Builds -> Allow Telemetry -> Set to Disabled
>>OneDrive -> Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage -> Set to Enabled
>>Search -> Allow Cortana -> Set do Disabled


3.) open up SERVICES.MSC

Disable the following three services (deleting them like some guides suggest are also an option but disabling them is better because you can see if they turn back on again, and find out what re-enabled them, if that should happen.)

1: Diagnostics Tracking Service
2: dwmappushsvc
3: DataCollectionPublishingServices


4.) open up REGEDIT

1:
press CTRL+F and type in Windows Search.
In the right pane, look for the value AllowCortana. Double click it, set the value to 0.

Press CTRL+F again, over and over again, until youve exhauseted the registry, for all "Windows Search" "folders" in the left pane. Sometimes there will be a value in the right pane called AllowCortana, and sometimes not. When its not, right click the empty space in the right pane, create DWORD (32bit) and type in AllowCortana. Double click the value once it is created just to make sure it is set to 0.

2:
do the exact same thing as above, but instead of searching for Windows Search, search for DataCollection.
In the right pane, instead of AllowCortana, make sure there is a value called AllowTelemetry and that it is set to 0.

CTRL+F and search again and again and again, just like above, add the DWORD value when needed, and set to 0.

FINAL STEP, VERY IMPORTANT

5. open up c:windowssystem32driversetc
open the files called "host". Open it with Notepad.

copy paste the following into the file under the line
# ::1 localhost.
no spaces just put all the servers below, just under the line above.
save and close.
reboot the machine and you should be all set.

Unfortunately you failed to mention that the supplied instructions are not fully compatible/applicable with Windows 10 Home version due to the fact that gpedit (Group Policy editor) has been removed by Microsoft from that particular Windows version.

What an interesting read through on this thread, I learned lots of stuff and it won't be forgotten. A couple of years ago my main Tower died and I had to go with 7 on a new build. I loved XP and now I love 7. I figure they are going to abandon 7 just like they did with XP ......it's just a matter of time till some guy rips your OS right out from underneath you:-)

The wife's laptop is also on 7 so its happy times for anyone here who gets on either system to do whatever. What I would like to know is what are we missing that is better and improved versus what we use now?

I have hidden the win 10 updates on both systems so no more nagging and all is good. Sitting on the sidelines and thanking everyone in this thread for great posts and fantastic links Pro/Con. I cannot see us going to 10 at this time nor in the future.

i bet many people have the home version aswell, as it is impossible to escape the botnet with that version.

its sickening.. i hope that if you DO have windows 10 pro and above you will at least disable the botnet.

MS might make it impossible to turn off later on, but as of now, its still very much ok to disable it.
just as it is ok to jailbreak an iphone.
why did you think apple put the ability to jailbreak inside the phones?
they couldve just as easily made it impossible.
same with the botnet features of win 10.
the ability to turn it off is there, so use it!

I have a chance to get FREE Win. 10 installed to replace what I am running now
but I heard the data mining is exhaustive and Privacy a farce in Win. 10 ~~which is the only future available for FREE

it will still work a very long time after that.
XP still works, and it lost support many years ago.

win 10 is free for everyone, that should tell you something.

i am forced to use win 10 on my laptop, for example, as there doesnt exist any drivers compatible with anything below 8.1

and while i have disabled all the spytools - the system is ugly and doesnt feel good to use, and im thinking of switching to linux for my pc.
there are drivers for everything working fine in linux. even the gfx card has drivers for it.
