No arguing the statistics presented were irrelevant from a pure statistical standpoint. No relation.

However, the point was that the threat of gun violence is greatly exaggerated in the media to the point of hyperawareness. Which creates a warped view of the world around them, and drives irrational anxiety and fear. You don't need statistics to be relevant when sarcasm is the medium to making your point.

Or if the average doctor was killing people with guns .

It seems like guns are the problem for you, not the death, why is that exactly?

Death is death weather by gun or river rock, it is still death.

Are you just one of those folks that are gunophobic?

this story reminds me of the whole Iraq situation. The U.S. gets rid of saddam and look at the mess over there now. Some people need to be ruled with an iron fist because they don`t know how to act responsibly when they are given more freedom.

Not a gunophobe at all , i live in Australia where a modicum of sanity prevailed , like many countries across the world . The old saying , guns dont kill people , people kill people is true to some degree i suppose . But until you can separate said guns from said people who would use those guns on other people , you have and will continue to have a problem .

bigfatfurrytexan

Sarcasm , hmmmm , maybe a new type that i am not aware of , or perhaps it is just in a world full of sarcasm i have become the sarcastic one but am unaware of it due to the fact it seems to be the norm .

Bugger it , that damn reply alert thingy did not work .

The police most certainly have pulled back and it is probably leading to more violence. Why would any cop want to get dirty with the thugs when they might later be thrown under the bus?

Sadly, that is a terrific point.

Coming from a "free" society, we think others want freedom as well, but they really don't, they want to be ruled.

Go humans!!

So then because a tiny fraction of people can't properly utilize a tool, nobody should be able to have one?

Well then alcohol needs to go, and cars, and hammers and shovels, and frying pans...... Until even rocks and sticks and mudpuddles must go, because all can and are misused by the small percentage of idiots that will always be amongst us.

Your logic is illogical.

We actually have pretty decent gun laws in Detroit.

It's open carry.

Women get free classes for their CPL all over the place.

A CPL class runs about $250 for men and lasts around 8 hours.

Over 21 with no felonies and no bond required for a CPL now.

*CPL = Concealed Pistol License

I keep saying that humans are still just a part of nature's balance.

Perhaps this is natural selection.

interesting your accidental stats are.

how many people do doctors kill on purpose?
how many deaths are caused on purpose with a gun?

same kind of numbers?

i would like someone to help me out.

the OP talks about a spike in homicides.
then a poster throws up stats about accidental deaths.

what do accidental deaths at the hands of a doctor have to do with homicides by gun?

i am having a hard time understanding this.

Or, they could make murder illegal. I don't understand why the govt can't just pass some laws to stop people killing each other! Seems kind of simple.

Maybe the good citizens of B'More need to be educated on the law.

Thank you, who would have thought that all of this would simply go away by making murder illegal and passing more restrictive gun laws….

I feel the slightest bit of hope when I see more people defending and understanding these basic facts in the face of the media indoctrinated "guns are bad" crowd.

If they make murder illegal, only criminals will commit murder-. . . . . wait, what?

Lol
, I just spit out Kentucky bourbon.... Shakes fist, Monday at work, I'm not going to pet the rabbits now, see what kind of pain you just caused.

I don't need to hold them and stroke their ultra soft fur, or look at the cute little bastardizations they are.

OK, I'm still going to pet them, but I will be doing it begrudgingly.

See what you have done?

Pet the rabbits if you must, however please do not spit the bourbon!!

Why not try to turn that tiny fraction into a minute one , and you call me illogical . Wow defending guns getting into the wrong hands . Cars kill so we put seat belts and air bags into them reducing the rate of death . But go right ahead defend your rights .

Really did you just defend giving guns to nutters because rocks can kill .

Doctors do not use firearms (in your parlance,... guns) they have a much more efficient method of killing you; pharmaceuticals.

The study authors, using the most conservative statistics they could find, broke down iatrogenic deaths over ten years as following:

Adverse Drug Reactions 1.06 million
Medical Error 0.98 million
Bedsores 1.15 million
Hospital Infections 0.88 million
Malnutrition in Health Care 1.09 million
Outpatients 1.99 million
Unnecessary Procedures 371,360
Surgery-related 320,000

And bed sores kill more than pharmaceuticals .

Nothing.

Its a deflection. The simple fact is: murders and all violent crime are at an all time low despite the perceptions of the populace.
