I have never been further east than Illinois. But I did live in Texas as a kid and have relatives still there in Ft Worth. My dad was a construction worker and could drive from end of Tx to the other and get a job. And it took a long time to drive through Texas.

UMM, me thinks you need to read the constitution. The US does not own the troops and equipment in a given state. In fact, all officers of the armed forces are supposed to be sworn in by their state and remain stationed in their home state until and unless called to action in a declared war, but that's just one more thing that the Fed. Where in the constitution do you think it says that? The only place the Constitution mentions the military is Article I, Section 8, Clause 14, and it doesn't say anything like what you says it does. My own experience bears that out. I entered the military in KY, was sworn in as an officer in FL, and immediately went to Thailand, without ever going back to Kentucky until after ETS. I never served a day as an officer in KY. I think you are confused, and I mean really confused, by certain provisions of Title 32 about the National Guard. And all equipment is owned by the US Government. When I picked up new F-4s in St. Louis to take to South Vietnam or Thailand, I had to sign a Bill of Sale and delivery receipt showing a sale to the Air Force.

We build a border fence along the north, east, and west borders of Texas.
Once Mexico annexes Texas (or just takes over), they'll be screaming for U.S. to take them back.

If we had an embargo on little Cuba for crossing us, what do you think we'd do if Texas "sold out" and let Putin in? Correction, "if Texas tried to let Putin in". Because it would never happen. Besides, what NATO countries or other US allies would betray the US by sending their troops in a UN mission to stop the US?

Besides, how did that legal argument work for every other independent nation the US has invaded or unilaterally placed sanctions on? And the US is the largest donor nation to the UN. The UN won't do anything near America's soil without the US's explicit permission. The UN didn't do crap to help any of the other countries in Central & South America when the US kept destabilizing them (invasions, coups, training & supporting armed paramilitaries, etc). So the UN wouldn't do anything differently for a new Central American country (Texas).

I'm not saying it's right, mind you. I actually speak up for the other Central American & South American countries on this issue. So maybe I'd have to rally my socialist friends to protest against the US's belligerent actions against Texas

What's that have to do with Texas allowing Russian bases onto its territory? Or the UN sending peacekeepers to stop the US? I thought that's what we were talking about.

I also think Texas could leave peacefully & if you've read my posts in this thread, I'm in favor of it. Though why would the remaining US want Texas to help us w/immigration? A US without Texas conservatives & Texas politicians would be a much more liberal place. Immigration isn't a major issue to us. We'd probably keep making programs where they pay taxes & become productive members of society. Conservatives are the ones paranoid about immigration.

You never know how delicate things are until a news of this kind comes around and people are ready to tear each others throats. I've never seen so much "hate" between americans. Name calling, insults, offensive comments, bashing...all in the name of the union

Teh russian bases comment was IF the US wanted to be a bunch of arseholes. Same with the UN.

You dont think that a independant texas would be a great scape goat for the rest of the country to regulate immigration? Texas would most likely become a US ally k? now the US could act the way china does with th eNorks. they say Bad bot and get a slap on th e wrist for being mean. SO texas could become very inhospitable to illegals.
