Preface (foreword, whatever):

I am having some real problems lately (first world problems, yes, but very painful and scary ones).....

So, today while I was working off my sadness and frustration, I kept repeating in my head that old saw:::::

(from AA fame)

(but I'm leaving out God and replacing it with "Life")

(on purpose)

Life, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the Courage to change the things I can,
the Wisdom to know the difference,
and......

(wait for it.....)

the Energy to do anything about any of it
... at all

Thanks.

Love, Buzzy

Life Bless You!

I have ups and downs, too, as regards the hopelessness of it all. Sometimes the pain and struggle seems like too much. When I feel overwhelmed, I Become the Observer and it helps me a lot.

You’ve all experienced this. A friend comes to you and is very upset. You remind them to take a deep breath, and you start to calmly ask questions about their situation. You do not flip out, start crying, and join them in their meltdown; because in this situation you are the observer (And that would also not be at all helpful!). You are not emotionally triggered therefore you are able to see the situation with clarity. Your pal is too emotionally heated to observe rather than react.

Much like your friend, when you react to intense emotions, there is no space between your thoughts for you to problem solve in a productive and skilled way. When you’re not acting as the Observer, it feels as though things are happening to you as opposed to you being a part of why it is happening. Now imagine being calm enough to connect with your problem-solving mind while experiencing a challenging situation?

Hugs to you, girl!

Thanks for that!!! That's what I've been trying to do -

I know the drill....
be an observer.

But when I really need to talk to that friend..... you know who that 'friend' really is for me???

My mom.

Yeah - I had a choice. Sit there and cry like I want to, or DO SOMETHING about what I can control.
So, I loaded all of the recycling in the truck (and was also going to weed-eat the lawn), and then I felt better. (The lawn is still not weed-eaten...but the tools and gloves are waiting. I consider that a first step. LOL!!!) (No, seriously. It's a start.)

There are LOTS of other projects I can tackle. But it seems ages between when I think of doing them and then accomplishing any of them!

This other phrase keeps going through my head:

"Always put off until tomorrow what you don't have to do today."
(The Procrastinator's Creed. That I made up. I think.)

*sigh*

Thanks again. *hug*

Okay - so, going back outside (because it's not a sauna today, for the first time in a week). Might not weed-eat, but am thankful that my ATS family (if I may be so forward as to claim it) has helped me get my big girl pants back on.

Love you all -

It always helps me to do something. Anything, really. A walk, the dishes, laundry. Just so I accomplish something.

sometimes you have to take a step back from the fray to clear your head and reorient yourself. all too easy to get lost in the mayhem and forget why you joined in the first place.

thanks for sharing your variation with us, buzzy. dont be ashamed of needing a shoulder, everyone does at one point or another.

Right?

So - I got part of the backyard weed-eaten.....
and started the grill up - and cooked the breaded catfish I had in the fridge.....
and called my brother....

not bad.

Why? Why change it?

You like the sound better? It's the same concept...

Do you believe you exist? Because it's not much difference. Don't let modern christian or islamic standards obscure your view of existence having a source.

Not at all, Buzzy. I had to replace my alcohol doggie biscuit reward
with something that didn't try to eat through my decrepit stomach
lining (and other major issues) and still feel compensated. Tried
early on to cross-addict to chocolate but ran out of clothes that fit.
Don't ask me to call my sister, we have altogether different lives.

You sound like you already won. Sincere woot.

Great song. I had no idea it was Lindsey Buckingham. But yeah - Fleetwood Mac.

That made me giggle, thanks.

Oddly my first thought wasn't that serenity prayer, I automatically thought of George Constanza and "Serenity Now".
