This should not be a surprise as lightning was always known to be the cause of sulphur smells. Before we get into this aspect I would like, first of all, to list some phenomena that are sometimes accompanied with a pungent smell, likened to sulphur or ozone.
The Tricksters: Of the Southwestern United States, Northern Mexico peyote ceremonies. Also in Celtic lore (fairies, gnomes, sylphs etc.)
The Men in Black
Sasquatch (Pacific Northwest), Yeti (Asia), The Skunk Ape (Southeastern U.S.), Momo (Missouri Monster)
The Greek Gods of Mythology
Succubi, Incubi, and various demonic manifestations during occult workings
Poltergeist, ghosts, spirits etc.
UFOs, Aliens, Space Brothers etc.
The Chupacabra of Puerto Rico and South and Central America
Lightning (this seems to be a clue of some sort, as UFOs are frequently see near powerlines of high voltage)

Interesting reading, to be sure. They are quite thorough about including all sorts of odd phenomena that include a sulphur smell. If these are connected or not is the question. I believe many are.

There are good reasons to believe that many of the listed phenomena are demonic in nature, and thus it would make sense that they shared some characteristics. Perhaps the smell is related to the energy discharge needed to manifest in our dimension.

Why would they have to be demonic in nature? Only one of the items on the list in the quoted text is explicitly demonic. The rest involves cryptids, various spirits both of the dead and nature, and purported aliens. While the potential interaction of another realm is a valid idea, I think it's rather presumptuous to label it all as "demonic" as that's a rather loaded word that carries a lot of religious baggage and implied negativity.

Various people on ATS and on other sites have mentioned that they smelled sufur or other noxious odors (such as burning rubber) during UFO or 'orb' sightings.
