That's when the sun is behind the plane and casting the shadow in front of it

I think it's possible that planes fly in the same patterns from airports over and over again I don't think that it's a flight pattern of chaos and mixture of flying wherever the hell you want.

All planes fly the same flight path near airports and of course those that have the same destinations. It is usually down to either auto pilots or actual flight paths put into the computer.
So they don't 'follow' the dark lines [contrail shadows], they 'follow' a program.

I was able to see the lines easily they are perfectly linear and shadow looking.

The lines are proof of us living (?) in The Matrix.

You have accidentally stumbled upon the lines between two "area tiles".

What you're describing, as others have said, matches with a contrail shadow. I've seen a lot of them and they can look really weird if you haven't seen them much before.

That's a shadow. I've seen that quite a few times driving.

I've seen these before, although had to question some, seeing as it was a clear day and not one cloud in the sky. What was amazing though, was that it put into perspective how big the atmosphere is, and was also able to see the curvature of it.

There's a cirrus layer that you can't see that it's casting the shadow onto. It looks like there's no cloud cover but you just can't see it with the naked eye.

If you saw these lines in the sky opposite the rising or setting sun, they might be anticrepuscular rays, (antisolar rays). They are dark bands that appear to be radiating out from a central point on the horizon, kind of like beams from the setting sun, only in negative. They can move and shift and the bands might widen and narrow.

It is. The first few times I saw them it was really weird. The ones at night are really cool though.

I haven't seen those but will keep an eye out, usually more focused on the stars and trying to pick out the planets.
