Hello there, ATS. Fungi are super cool, weird, sometimes gross, and sometimes illegal, eukaryotic organisms. Nevertheless, they are very successful organisms and deserve some respect (if not for beauty alone).

Dude I love when you post. It's always something cool.

Love the shrooms, it blows my mind how many kinds there are.

I visited a museum in Halifax that was displaying a huge assortment an artist made from glass or clay. There were so many it was hard to take it in.....and I think they were showing only the ones from Nova Scotia.

Dunno why but I love seeing and learning this stuff lol.

Very beautiful . Thanks for sharing. Funny once me and some friends made some giant blue magic mushrooms out of chicken wire and paper machete for an outdoor dance party. That were about 2 meters tall. At the end of the party most of them had been taken or stolen by the punters and we Pissed our selves laughing cos the few that were left were fly blown with maggots. Karma got the mushroom theives.
I do love button mushrooms coated in oil with a chunk of blue vein cheese in the middle and baked in the oven. Yum

That would be an awesome exhibit! I would love to go to one. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of any near where I live. We do have a decent rock/mineral collection in our city's museum (which will be my next topic ) but nothing on Fungi or Lichen.

It's definitely something to look for whilst Hiking. I wish I had my camera on me, but this one time I found this very peculiar bunch of fungi way out in the middle of Jasper National Park (Canada). This small, Neon pink fungi. It was along a trail near some animal dung, so I assume that's where they got a lot of their nutrition. I'll have to do a Google search for it.

EDIT: I think It may have been this slime-mold stuff


But for some reason I remember it being bright pink (it was about 4 years ago when I had seen it)

I live in the so-called "mushroom capital of the world" in southeastern PA.
TONS of mushroom caves, and I have to tell you, being an amateur mycologist is fun stuff here. Every year I document a few new specimens growing in the yard.
I sometimes wonder if McKenna really was onto something about their purpose and possible panspermic origin.

Haha, By the looks of some of these, I'd say virtually none are edible... at least, if you want to live after you eat them

EDIT: Actually, I did a quick search and some of them ARE edible. The Veiled Lady is used in Chinese cuisine. That Bleeding Tooth fungi is also edible, but no one wants to eat it because it's apparently extremely bitter

I found a bleeding tooth mushroom once. If you squeeze it it the shiney red drops drip down but stay attached and when you release the gentle squeeze on the mushroom they suck back up into the original position. I tried to do some research on them after and from what I found out is that it is pretty valuable and does have a medicinal use, it stops your blood from clotting and you will bleed out if you were to ingest it. I pray that nobody ingests one. My hubby also once found a puff ball a few years back that was slightly smaller than the size of a basket ball, those are edible. But in general don't ever guess with wild mushrooms.

Fascinating, how gorgeous are the Mycena interrupta mushrooms? that blue colour looks so neat. That web from the first one is crazy, never seen that before.
