A photo shows Leroy Smith, who is a black man and the state’s director of public safety, helping an unidentified protester who was showing signs of heat exhaustion during the Confederate flag rally.

Whether you love to hate or hate to love, you can't help but smile. The officer made a bold statement with this simple act of kindness. There isn't much to the story, but who needs dialog when a picture is worth a thousand words. Lead by example and never let a good opportunity to help someone go to waste. You might set off a chain reaction.

It would be good to get a commentary on the man's reaction to this.

Though I doubt it'll shake his ridiculously vitriolic beliefs much, maybe it'll open a door in his heart where some light can come through. Or..... Alternatively he could simply blame the black man's presence for his dilemma in the first place.

At least one of them has some decency.

We need all of this we can get right now, or anytime for that matter.
Imagine if caring and empathy spread everywhere -
"Lookout! Its another random act of kindness.
I can't escape it!

Seen this on Imgur earlier. It isn't as the title reads reads, and was quickly debunked.

A shame a photo sharing Reddit offshoot is better at this then us.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but some sort of link or explanation would be nice.

Care to elaborate?

Could you elaborate on that? Maybe share a link or something?

I'm looking. Imgur doesn't have a search function. Long story short MSM ran with a false sensationalist headline.

Imgur has a search function. It's the magnifying glass at the top of the screen.

Long story short: you are wrong. Imgur. Really?

“It is not unusual for (Smith) to wear a uniform and assist alongside troopers and officers during these sort of events,” Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sherri Iacobelli wrote in an emailed statement to the Daily News.

Smith was pictured in a now viral image helping the apparent neo-Nazi up the steps of the Statehouse to a patch of shade between the building’s columns where he could find water and first aid.

“He had observed that the person appeared to be feeling ill from the heat and needed assistance,” Iacobelli added.

What are you talking about? This is exactly as the title states - a black officer helping a neo-Nazi suffering from heat exhaustion.

South Carolina top cop helps white supremacist protester suffering from heat exhaustion at KKK rally

South Carolina's director of public safety, Leroy Smith, helps a man wearing a National Socialist Movement T-shirt up the stairs at Saturday's rally after it appeared he was suffering from heat exhaustion.

The department has seen the photo and responded to it:

“It is not unusual for (Smith) to wear a uniform and assist alongside troopers and officers during these sort of events,” Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Sherri Iacobelli wrote in an emailed statement to the Daily News.

The photographer's own comments:

Rod Godfrey, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's deputy chief of staff, is the photographer who captured the moment. He described it as “not an uncommon example of humanity” in South Carolina.

The the man being helped certainly can be described as a neo-Nazi:

The protester’s T-shirt is associated with the National Socialist Movement, which is the nation’s largest neo-Nazi group whose members are labeled by the Southern Poverty Law Center as extremists.

So what else is there to "debunk," regarding this photo? A black police officer put professional duty above personal feelings and helped a KKK nutbag in distress.

If the MSM ran stories like this with as much frequency as their death, destruction and disparity montages, some of us just might start to feel inspired.

Recently moved to columbia sc. Was raised in the NE and lived in the SW. I have never lived in such a well integrated city as columbia. They make the place sound like ground zero for racism. While i dont doubt it has its problems it also has more black and white people getting along and living as professionals than anywhere I have seen. Including the liberal NE. Crime is low and there are poverty issues which can oftwn lead to racial tension. So far I am pretty dumfounded by the image potrayed vs the civility and lack of racial tension.

Kudos to the officer. I'm glad to see cops focused on their jobs and putting their political and racial differences aside.. there are many more cops likes this, white and black. It's a shame you get the few bad cops put a bad name to the rest.

Pardon my bluntness but who gives a damn?

White cops help other races daily.
Asian cops help other races daily.
Black cops help other races daily.

Virtually all cops help murderers, racists, rapists, thieves, etc on a daily basis. If a cop catches some child molester on the street and he's bleeding from a stab wound the first thing the cop does is get him medical aid. Now, whether you agree with it or not, it's the same principle.

The OP, the news agencies running this story, etc are all sensationalists. Cut the bull. The vast majority of cops help people in need, regardless of their race or past crimes.

That old buzzard might not have deserved the help, but this one act of kindness from the officer might actually get those old rusty wheels in his brain turning, and it could be an eye-opener for him.

This is a fine example of what has always fascinated me about humans.
It is the real expressions of humanity toward one another.

Oh!
After I looked at the picture again I saw what the OP was showing.
These guys are wearing different types of "uniforms".
That is what is being discussed; isn't it???
