Incompetence of the FBI and NSA inre national security aka the peoples safety

How protected are we with terrorist attacks? Even though we are supposedly being watched/listened to, it would appear that the agencies responsible for our so called security are incompetent! I would assume the NSA isn't communicating with the FBI. Below are some examples of missed opportunities to get the bad guys! Or as I call it, incompetence maximus!

Al-Awlaki e-mails[edit]

Included in the document was the assertion that the FBI, aware of Tamerlan’s radical Islamist views, asked him to work as an informant on certain factions in the Boston region.

(Patrick Leahy and Tom Daschle). The anthrax letters addressed to New York were mailed on September 18, 2001, just seven days after the 9/11 attacks. The letters addressed to the senators were mailed 21 days later on October 9, 2001. A fifth mailing of anthrax is believed to have been directed to American Media, Inc. (AMI) in Boca Raton, Florida based upon the death of one AMI employee from anthrax poisoning and heavy spore contamination in the building.

51. Executive management at FBI Headquarters assigned responsibility for the anthrax investigation (code named “AMERITHRAX”) to the Washington Field Office (WFO), dubbing it the single most important case in the FBI at that time.

In October 2002, in the wake of surging media criticism, White House impatience with a seeming lack of investigative progress by WFO, and a concerned Congress that was considering revoking the FBI’s charter to investigate terrorism cases, Defendant FBI Director Mueller reassigned Plaintiff from the FBI’s San Diego Field Office to the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters and placed Plaintiff in charge of the AMERITHRAX case as an “Inspector.”While leading the investigation for the next four years, Plaintiff’s efforts to advance the case met with intransigence from WFO’s executive management, apathy and error from the FBI Laboratory, politically motivated communication embargos from FBI Headquarters, and yet another preceding and equally erroneous legal opinion from Defendant Kelley – all of which greatly obstructed and impeded the investigation.

53. On July 6, 2006, Plaintiff provided a whistleblower report of mismanagement to the FBI’s Deputy Director pursuant to Title 5, United States Code, Section 2303. Reports of mismanagement conveyed in writing and orally included: (a) WFO’s persistent understaffing of the AMERITHRAX investigation; (b) the threat of WFO’s Agent in charge to retaliate if Plaintiff disclosed the understaffing to FBI Headquarters; (c) WFO’s insistence on staffing the AMERITHRAX investigation principally with new Agents recently graduated from the FBI Academy resulting in an average investigative tenure of 18 months with 12 of 20 Agents assigned to the case having no prior investigative experience at all; (d) WFO’s eviction of the AMERITHRAX Task Force from the WFO building in downtown Washington and its relegation to Tysons Corner, Virginia to free up space for Attorney General Ashcroft’s new pornography squads; (e) FBI Director’s Mueller’s mandate to Plaintiff to “compartmentalize” the AMERITHRAX investigation by stove piping the flow of case information and walling off task force members from those aspects of the case not specifically assigned to them – a move intended to stem the tide of anonymous media leaks by government officials regarding details of the investigation. This sequestration edict decimated morale and proved unnecessary in light of subsequent civil litigation which established that the media leaks were attributable to the United States Attorney for the District of the District of Columbia and to a Supervisory Special Agent in the FBI’s National Press Office, not to investigators on the AMERITHRAX Task Force;

You are correct. The communication between agencies is highly lacking, and much of the time not solicited. Hell, sometimes different services within the same agency refuse to communicate with each other, regardless of how self destructive it may be.

You know the sign....as in here's your sign? This is total incompetence. I am ashamed of our security measures and the false pretenses under which they navigate.

One of Snowden's many revealings shared that lots of snooping went on with people's -non suspects- private data-article-see here. Those in the article are so busy with those that they are missing the crucial connections. Goes without mentioning, with so many sects within the agencies tied into the overall system, information collection and it's proper investigation is bound to be disjointed.

Besides a keen interest in its own citizens, the USG is always looking for a false flag to coalesce. It's more helpful if these are staffed by unwitting pawns with the correct ideology and name.

Maybe that's why they get so cozy with these individuals and don't do anything to impede them?

The proposed answer to threats is always more of the Fascist surveillance state which breaks down to more budget and more freedom to operate.

Let's try less Fascist surveillance state and less military imperialism shall we?

I've made this same argument here before, our post 9/11 policies don't make us safer in fact they put us in greater danger. We have an NSA that forces back doors into software... back doors that other nations can use once they learn it exists. They actually sue people who make secure software and hardware because it means they can't get into it.

In the cases brought up what we have is an acquisition problem. We've taken the idea that more data means we can catch more plots however this isn't true and it hasn't been true for a while. All of the mentioned examples involved people who simply slipped through the cracks, the current approach can't point to a single attack it has prevented. This was even true on 9/11 where we knew something was going down but there was so much information coming in that we couldn't focus on what mattered. It is 1000x worse than that today.

We have a problem with prioritizing information and we've turned what should be a needle in a haystack search to a specific pebble on the bottom of the ocean.

It's important to keep in mind that none of the alphabet agencies nor the government in general is concerned with protecting the public. It's not their mission. They are singularly focused on protecting the interests of business and the people behind them. That includes the elite that the system sees as the drivers of the economy. Local law enforcement is used as a barrier between us (the masses) and the elite/business world. We're seen as expendable whereas businesses, the infrastructure they require, and the people behind them are viewed as essential.
