Urgh.

Hold on.

"When Mexico sends its people they're not sending their best ... They're sending people that have lots of problems ... They are bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists."

That's Trump stating that most if not all Mexicans coming over the border have problems. That's not paraphrased either, that's his direct quote.

Pressed on whether his recent criticism of McCain went too far, Trump went further.

"He is not a war hero," Trump said.

Then, when the moderator affirmed McCain was a war hero, Trump said: "He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."

There's his QUOTE about John McCain.

Please read the bolded.

If Trump MEANT to say something else, he sure went about it in a very strange way. But I can see how some of his supporters would rather sugar coat his statements.

does Trumps recent comment about Mccain not being a hero because he was captured not hurt his chances greatly?

When Al Franken made almost the same comment about McCain, there was no uproar. Of course, hes a Democrat. The fact that both sides hate Trump and the media REALLY hates him, tells me he's probably the best choice.

Actually, I do see another Democrat getting the nomination, for all the reasons listed.

Hillary is not as you assume, a Democrat darling.

I'm not assuming anything. I'm going by the hard data provided by preliminary polling numbers. YOU are the one making assumptions.

Her press coverage proves that.
At this stage of the election when she ran against Obama,
everyone thought Hillary was a shoo in.
Well she is not and Obama, a virtual unknown,
beat her roundly.
For all the reasons I listed that you think are irrelevant,
she most likely will lose to another Democrat.

It's possible, I'm not ruling it out, but she IS winning in the polls currently. And even if she does get beat out by another Democrat, that still doesn't make Trump anymore of a valid choice for Democrats.

Trump, regardless of what you think,
will draw a huge number of Democratic voters,
the uninformed block,
which is a very very large block (in both parties actually)
and his TV appeal could win out.
I'm saying it is possible.

I'm saying that you are COMPLETELY unfounded in your assumptions. There maybe a few uninformed Democrat voters out there that may vote for Trump, but whats more likely is that those uninformed voters will just vote party lines like most uninformed voters already do.

I actually don't want Jeb either.
Right now I am leaning toward Cruz, Rubio, or Walker.

Irrelevant, Trump is going to split the Republican vote regardless of who gets the GOP nomination. Though I will tell you this, Jeb is your best bet of getting a Republican into the Presidency. Though even THAT is looking like a long shot (again thanks to Trump).

No matter who runs, if Trump runs as an independent
it is my opinion
that the uninformed blocks of both parties
will flock to him
because they "think" he is Presidential and so smart etc.
Perception is reality, or becomes reality when it
comes to politics.

Your perception is overdistorted about Trump's popularity.

I'm not sugar coating anything friend.

Can you deny (honestly) either of the statements?

Do illegal immigrants not bring drugs into the US? Are MS13 members not among the immigrant population? Are there no rapists among them? (I do notice that you have gone from "every single one" to "most if not all". I'm sure if you drop the blinders a little more you'd see he was saying what most Americans are seeing.

Again, on McCain, I wholeheartedly agree. Being a POW should not make one a war hero. Performing an act of heroism should make one a hero. The word is used so much is is synonymous with veteran, soldier, sailor, marine, cop, teacher, protester, firefighter, mall cop, person with a job, fill in the _________. It has lost it's meaning it's been so over used. Hero is about the same as "war on _____" to be honest.

I do find it odd that the only two soldiers the left defends are McCain and Kerry. That alone should tell you about there voting record at least

Does anyone actually really think he would be a good president?.
I don't think I can think of many worse candidates in fact this frightens me more then any doom porn on ATS.

The other candidates are all progressive ideal pushing people herders. Thankfully for them people love the safety of a tightly formed herd and the illusion of security not thinking brings.

Trump breaks this pattern...........He is not a progressive ideal people herder.

I only changed my stance because his comments stated " And I assume, some of them are good people".

But then again, I can't really expect to discuss the issue with people who don't understand that America's overall problem is domestic policy in general.

It's not immigration it's poverty. Oh and net immigration to the US since 2010 has been pretty much 0%. Mexicans aren't actually coming here in droves, a lot are trying to leave lol.

Oh I'm not a fan of the military, I seldom feel bad for soldiers willing to go kill civilians in the name of some oligarch. But don't make light of a man's 5 year POW status. Not while you were a draft dodger like Trump.

Come on now, Bill Clinton dodged the draft in Russia and he was a great President

Poverty doesn't get better when you import mouths to feed. I'm not sure where the net 0% comes from, is the the cooked books over the last six years?

I never killed a civilian "in the name of an Oligarch", I did it cause all the cool kids did it first.

I don't know how many ways there are to say the same thing: Trump is unelectable.

First and foremost, he has to appeal to the swing vote. So far, he doesn't. At all. And his mouth will keep from from getting those crucial votes.

Second, he has no substance. Just yell some controversial stuff, make some bold claims that everyone knows are bs, and then yell and degrade. That's all he's got.

Tenth...

I know you get this but, most immigrants are not coming from Mexico.

They are coming from other Countries further South. Mexico is pretty much empty.

As clumsy as Trump is...He is correct. We are not getting their best.

If anyone is looking to be offended, Trump will quickly do it.

Let's see somebody beat Trump in the debates. Cause, if you can't beat Trump.

You can't be President. This is the arena of ideas. Trump has some ideas.

I want to hear them...

Well Arnold and Ventura both won elections they ran in.

Why are we so surprised that a well-known guy like Trump gains support? US politics is nothing more than a high school popularity contest, on a nation-wide scale. It's just like voting for class president. People are more likely to put their vote behind someone they know and who makes the most noise.

Eh, you get, at best, a ten percent turn out on mayoral and governor races in a non-Presidential election cycle. And that's adding Congressional seats open. Crazies get elected into those positions all the time. Just look at the morons who were voted in in Texas last cycle.

the vast majority of illegals are here to work and make a better life for themselves, that being said there are, like in any group of people, bad apples and unfortunately yes criminals. yes illegal immigration needs to end, the border needs to be secured and crime among all people needs to be lower and education higher.

he never should have opened his mouth against a veteran, while millions of americans served in vietnam, trump avoided service w a silver spoon in his mouth, he has no right to say whether or not someone is a war hero.

the problem is the way donald trump says things and un-apologetically tries to whitewash his words after the fact. this man has not one diplomatic bone in his body and if president will offend world leaders across the board with his crass behavior. he is not a man i want representing our country, he is a man that will lead us in to ww3.

i am really not worried about his chances at winning the presidency, he is destroying the gop and doing a great job of creating even more division and getting grumpy old white men even grumpier. he has alienated hispanics, veterans to the point of no return. whats next is he gonna bash african americans and the lgbt community?

You do realize that the reason the Vets fought...

So, Trump could say whatever the hell he wants.

It's really a beautiful thing that should not be cheapened with calls to silence.

I also see Trump as being able to win a large
segment of the Democratic voters...

Sorry, but it isn't the Democrats who are in turmoil. They will all vote for whoever the Democrat candidate is, whether Clinton or Sanders. It's a fairly united front, as evidenced by the two person field. It's the Republicans who don't seem to mind cannibalizing their votes among various GOP candidates and Independents. The swing vote is pretty much Moderates, and Trump has no appeal to them.

There's no reason he has to disparage people to make a point though.

I do look forward to the debates. You're right about that, if they can't win an argument with Trump they don't deserve to be POTUS.

But, I suspect a lot of the debates will just be yelling back and forth.

you're exactly right and time and time again people like him stick their foot in their mouths and ruin their careers. his career might not be ruined because he has plenty of money to survive but his career in politics is done.

I volunteer within the community to assist with a few immigrant charities. I am aware than many of them are honest hard working peoples. I also drive by MS13 members every day and I live in Detroit. I am aware that there is good and bad in every group. My Mexican GF even knows that there is good and bad in every group and somehow she agrees with Trump on this one.

Being a veteran doesn't make you above reproach. McCain has run every campaign from his first to his last on his "POW/ War Hero" status. Since he has done that he has opened himself up to being called to task for it.

America will have had eight years with a President that has a coward's heart. Can she really afford any more?

you mean coward heart like silver spoon in his mouth draft dodger that then talks smack about people who actually had the cojones to serve? i am no fan of mccain but trump continues to stick his foot in his mouth while the rest of the country denounces trump there will be a small minority that will make excuses for everything he says. its ok trump is like watching a bad trainwreck, he reminds me of the george zimmerman fiasco, he will continue to have supporters until video of him surfaces drowning a new born baby.

You think McCain served for "God and country" or that he wasn't pampered?

His father was an Admiral the same as his Grandfather. He was Navy royalty. That's way he was allowed to keep crashing planes until he got it right.

He used the service as a stepping stone to politics and a prison camp got in the way. I feel bad for him having to go through the hell he endured. The same I feel for any man or woman that endured it. Does it set him above the rest and entitle him to the "hero" status he loves so much? Many don't think so.

You may and more power to you. Every one of has the right to decide for ourselves what a hero means. Even civilians have the right to decide that for themselves (even evil rich draft dodger ones).

Trump will be backed by the oil gang and the powerful corporate America, he has already said openly he will take the Iraqi oil.
Wasn't the whole Iraq war about oil...

There is a power struggle in the shadows, "the other PTB" side won when Obama went to office, and now the original power holders (Bush era, and era before that) are striking back.

I see Trump's politics as a natural continuation to the Bush politics. I don't know enough about the Mexico situation though, I really can't find motive for keeping the border open, and for the gun/drug traffic. Please enlighten me on that.
