My 2 coppers worth.

My beef is when a racial event happens you should calm people down first...That way a rational discussion can occur.. Making a speech a few hours later covering a lot of the bad that has happened to a racial group will only enflame tension.

The next step is you have to point out and hold up people of all colors coming together to speak with one voice against that act, so people know what the right path is (yes some folks are that dumb and need to be hit with a clue bat).

Haven't seen much of that from him either... He should be chastising all the news for focusing on just the bad... Instead of chastising 1 reporter for asking a tough question.

It's called being a leader... He's a horrible leader.
Eta these 40k people are stupid, and I really hope they don't breed.

IN American history, how many times have you noticed that "letting things cool down" has resulted in long-term change?

Or even short term change?

I'll look forward to those answers.

What are you talking about? The media "focusing on the bad"? About what, the church shooting?

How would you put a good spin on that tragedy, exactly?

I'll "guess" that by "he" you mean President Obama?

He's a "bad leader" because he came out to show the nation's grief at the killing of Americans??? I disagree.

As to the 40K ... I think it's important that they've done this. First, it's their right of speech and assembly.

Second, it demonstrates just how inane, out-of-touch, and childish the average racist is.

Thumbs up for the copy and paste treatise.

Whatever point you are trying to make can be summed up in two simple words: common sense.

The lack of common sense is the problem, there is no need make a complicated issue more complicated.

Awww, thanks for the compliments cake ... but I have to say, if common sense was, well, common, we wouldn't be having this convseration!

Way to provide empty critique though!

LOL ... sometimes it's too easy to make a point. Racism is hard to hide for long as a general fact.

I mentioned in another thread that my high school mascot was "The Rebel" (a gnarly old Confederate soldier carrying a battle flag) and that the Stars and Bars is still painted on the front of our gym to this day. I grew up full of Southern pride in western Georgia, was proud of our school and our State Flag, my high school class ring has a Rebel on one side and the Rebel Flag on the other ... this was a part of our heritage, dang it. Yee haw. Screw you Yankees ...

... and then I learned the truth about the Georgia State flag and the resurgence of the Confederate Battle Flag in Southern culture in the 1950s as a visible act of rebellion against segregation. (I was born mid-60s)

I know that there are many who love the Confederacy not because of what it stood for, but because it is part of their history. I get that.

I also know that to many Black Americans, that Flag means that they were second-class citizens and would be again if certain factions had anything to say about it.

As a personal statement, whether of Southern pride, or of racism and White supremacy (as many do use it for) these symbols are just that ... personal statements.

But to fly over the People's House ... ALL of the People ... is unconscionable.

What should South Carolina remove today....? The road side trash. I spent Sunday morning cleaning up a two block area and filled a whole tall kitchen bag with cans, water bottles, fast food wrappers, straws, and solo cups. Evidently the average Southerner thinks nothing of pitching their trash out of the car's window. Not kidding it is an epidemic here.

My husband and I were back in Ohio last weekend. The poorest part of Ohio, Brown County, has no road side trash. The northerners do not empty their trash into the landscape. It was beauty clean countryside. Even Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky looks clean. In fact as soon as you leave Columbia things look clean along the roads.

If you are reading this, consider picking up some neighbor hood or roadside trash today. Then recycle it. This would leave a nice legacy to the future people here in Columbia and Lexington. That is something to make South Carolina more charming and intellectual. If you say something mean about this, you should pick up two bags of trash today, because you probably threw some out there yesterday.

My opinion.... it's a ploy to use for leverage. A tit for tat go at stopping all the anti Confederate trend going on. I wonder how many pitching a-bich about all this are even from the south ? And that in itself is irritating Southerners that outside influences are dictating what should and what should not be done.

From your video "only a malicious and paranoid mind would think otherwise" ... So yes at the same time your spokesman there is condemning "progressives" for trying to control the speech of others by insulting others ... he's doing the same thing.

Right. SSDD. Carry on

Actually.WE are rebelling from a social attempt to control us ,by the redefinition of society by an unacceptable new model that is attempting to RE-LABLE history and attack traditions and values. It is there to forment anarchy so it can be manipulated more effectively into a socialist model AKA Europe.
IT'S going to be cast aside when this MORON gets booted out of the whitehouse.
ALSO myself and that video couldn't care LESS about how you feel about it.
I haven't GOT a spokesman as I am NOT a follower,I'm an American,we think for ourselves I just agree with what he said.

A social attempt to control you ... how. Because people express their opinion? Would you like to shut that down? People shouldn't be able to say things you don't like???

Sounds a bit totalitarian to me. /shrug

Let me see if I understand you ... you feel like someone, somewhere is trying to "RE-LABLE' history and attack traditions and values? What traditions? Segregation? What values? Discrimination?

Foment anarchy? You mean like ... the Libertarians???

And why do you think anyone CARES about how you feel anymore than anyone else? You and Pat Connell ... you do realize he is a virulent atheist, right? Or didn't you bother to find out anything about him aside from his hate for Muslims?

Yeah, brother I'm an American too. Just as American as you are, I have the same rights you do, and a fundamental one we both have is to disagree with each other. IF you don't want to hear what other people think about what you post ... why are you posting in a public forum?

Because THEY demand COMPLIANCE ,where we don't demand OTHERS be EXACTLY like us because our feelings are hurt.
I haven't DEMANDED your family have arms training I haven't DEMANDED you fly the rebel flag and YOU WILL not make any such demands on me.
THIS is an attempt to divide the country ONLY.
NOTHING to do with racism NOTHING to do with hate.
THAT flag is MILITARY history ONLY and Congress HAS recongnized southern Confederate soldiers as AMERICAN veterans.

WHO demands compliance? You don't sound like the kind of guy that cares that much if he hurts other peoples feelings.

No one has made any demands on you about your Rebel flag. What in the world are you talking about?

Yep, there's lots of efforts to divide the country, and at least 50% of it comes from the right-wing mainstream media.

Confederate soldiers were considered American soldiers and rightly so. Wounds, even from a Civil War, should be allowed to heal.

Except, not forever it seems.

The Confederate Battle Flag was brought back in the 40s as a symbol of the Dixiecrats, who considered White Supremacy a plank in their political platform. It was installed in the 1950s on the State Flags of seven Southern states specifically to let everyone know that these States officially OPPOSED segregation and equal rights. It has been used extrensively by the KKK and White Supremacy groups as a symbol of their agenda.

And yet, you and yours are well able to fly the Stars and Bars at your homes, in your trucks, tattooed on your body, on your underwear, etc. etc. etc.

That's your right.

And it's every other American's right to tell you what they think of it.

Are you saying you can't stand a difference of opinion? Does that "hurt your feelings"?

Take your own advice.

WE just aren't that stupid and those who seek it, ALL are.
WHAT are you blind to NOT seeing Political correctness as a DISEASE attacking the US?

Firstly, I am NOT southern born, I moved south a decade ago, to where it is sunny, that is the ONLY reason I moved south.

The petition is not stupid or idiotic, it's in the same vein as the request to remove the flag. Revenge!!, not for any "high moral" standing.

Personally, I could care less about the flag or monument. or how any of you "feel". thankfully, our constitution never said you have the right to NOT be offended... Yet some folks think that IS their right.

long before the civil war was fought, there was (allegedly) a wise person said "do unto other as you would have them do unto you" (treat everyone the way you want to be treated mkay?)

I was a post Vietnam war Marine, I was spit on and called a "baby killer" as I walked through the airport on my way home after boot camp. My comment to them, "I support the right for you to express your view with my life".
it made for some interesting dialog for sure but I was young and white, I knew nothing..

I am now 54 years old been around the world 3 times while in the Marines, and lost a few good friends.

I STILL support your right to express your views with my life, I took that oath willingly and have Never forgot it.

in all my life I am still waiting for MY white privilege. I treat EVERYONE with courtesy (not always with respect, nor is it a sign of cowardice as some folks think to be courteous)

I have been at the gun point of law enforcement on a few occasions, due to misunderstandings, not through personal aggression. I never got shot by them.

My ancestors were not the most forward looking bunch and backed King George in the American revolution and ended up in Canada for 150 years or so. (to be blunt they weren't here when the whole slavery/civil war happened, Yet I have been told, to my FACE, that I "owe" the black man reparations.) [ With me giving the same replay as above ]

Gryphon66 says he was proud of his southern heritage but that it "changed" when he read history. some how he is responsible for the Horrific acts of the 50's, and now feels it is wrong (about the flag) I wonder how he feels for not being educated about the past crimes his personal family has done. I have yet to hear him feel remorse for that. (how silly eh?)

liberals want every one to be equal, which is NOT a good thing, because, not everyone wears the same size shoe.
wearing shoes that are to tight or too loose cause all kinds of problem for the health of the wearer. Just like treating everyone equally cause problems for the Health of the Country.

I have been looking and still cannot find in the constitution that all men will be treated equally. we may all start the same, but some folks just grow taller than others. which is why we have ladders

I think we have rather more to be ashamed about than statutes and slavery in the past. Just a thought.
