I been reading about that also.

hotair.com...
The Sahara as a whole used to be very green, yes, the article mentions it & how that occurred. Here's another article pertaining to the changeover back then.

Actually, here's a better, more technical article about it. It's funny, instances in history like these always ruffle AGW bakcers' feathers, too. Like they can't wrap their minds around grand scale climate change not being our fault.

No, it does not ruffle any feathers. Most of us like good science and are open to good information.

However what is happening now is truly an anomaly in terms of the history of the planet and many of the changes we are seeing on this planet are the result of human activity.

Climate is subject to change, and one of the reasons why 'climate change' has become a buzz word is so some will look at the issue and claim the climate is always changes therefore there is nothing we can do about it.

Meanwhile we continue to ravage this planet in the name of profit, we continue to cut down forests, we continue to pollute our waters, we continue to pump CO2 and CH4 in the atmosphere, and we still have many who think this is not of concern for the survival of our species simply because climate has changed in the past.

That's assuming conditions around station were same 10 years ago

If pave area around monitoring station or place trash barrel or BBQ grill next to it then have altered the
environment around station and invalided data

Also many stations which were formerly in rural areas have had area around them built up or stations
have been removed altering the validity of the data collected....

See, now you are cherrypicking a couple of weather monitoring stations and ignoring other data, like satellites and the measured rise globally in ocean temperatures.

Apparently, from what I can gather, planet Earth is experiencing a warming trend.

Problem is that satellite data from past 20 years show NO SPIKE in warming

Ocean surface temperature have remained stable over the past 2 decades

False. A definite spike in 1998 (radical El Nino year).
Along with an ongoing warming trend since 1980.

Ocean surface temperature have remained stable over the past 2 decades
Are you sure about that? Why has the heat content been increasing for the past 4 or so?
www.nodc.noaa.gov...

We also found out that ocean temperatures reached record levels in 2014, with portions of every major ocean basin attaining new highs. But there is more to the ocean temperature measurements than first meets the eye, since we tend to focus more on sea surface temperatures.

It's bad enough when some attempt to deny the role of humans, but when they attempt to deny that the planet is getting warmer?

Fully agree .

Apparently all 400+ scientist and 58 countries are laying about the warming. if people just read the whole report .

They must be all on board this whole "political scam to make money " ,wonder how much the payoff is .....

Poor people shouldn't be allowed to use energy, they are the reason for this global warming Armageddon that is upon us. Hopefully in response governments use taxes to make energy so expensive only the rich, important people can afford it. The plants and animals of this Earth are infinitely more important than worthless human peasants.

And you have the cheek to call me ignorant?!

Don't be a fool mate...examining and determining the 'Geological record' IS a modern (NOT around during the Pliocene btw) science based technique used for determining the historical geological nature of Earth during early periods. Science can use these data derived from examining the geological record to determine whether the land was wet, dry, oscillated between the two, which flora and fauna were common to a particular area, strength and orientation of the natural magnetic field, weather patterns and yes, even mean temperatures for a given period in antiquity.

You don't need to have modern instruments in place DURING the Pliocene era, to use modern instruments and techniques to determine what was going on with natural processes and phenomena back then...obviously!

I suppose by your reasoning mate, you probably think an archaeologist had to have actually been running around during the Jurassic, in order to determine that a fossilised dinosaur is a fossilised dinosaur!

Did you know that climate change and global warming have been used as terms for pretty much the same length of time?

Global warming vs climate change

There have long been claims that some unspecificed "they" has "changed the name from 'global warming' to 'climate change'". In reality, the two terms mean different things, have both been used for decades, and the only individual to have specifically advocated changing the name in this fashion is a global warming 'skeptic'.

Not that I have anything against Climate science or anything; just putting that out there.
