i just don't like terms like "class".

It wasn't long ago my wife and i were raising 2 young boys while working minimum wage jobs in a nursing home. It wasn't easy, for sure. And even though I have worked hard to gain skills/experience, and she worked hard to get through nursing school, i am still a poor, broke redneck.

I don't see it as classes, other than an expedient reference (as you have done here). Because when the poor in America are getting screwed, im getting screwed too.

but many in today's welfare are working their buts off 40 or more hours a week and finding that they need more than that $30 or $40 dollars in food stamps to feed their families! so your stereotype really isn't that accurate is it?

hey I got an idea,
let's drop all assistance except for the elderly (social security) and the disabled and watch the business sector scramble to keep their employees alive and functioning without the gov't assistance.
wal mart already published a report to their stockholders of what a small decrease in food stamps would cost their company..
it would be in a sick way fun to watch as they watched the results of a total cut!!! I bet they'd find the money to pay their employees more real quick though!

Ever see any of the Mad Max movies?

Republico-libertarian Wonderland (in my humble opinion).

EDIT: Oh, forgot to add ... "LOL"

You mean the ones where the people are controlled by petty tyrants? Naw, liberal wonderland--they love them some petty tyrants, ever work with a HOA?

OTOH, I could see you your Mad Max and raise you some 1984.

So, you don't deny that Mad Max is a Republican/libertarian Wonderland then?

I actually work with multiple POAs/HOAs and their Boards all the time. Most them are populated by Conservatives.

(Self-critique: anecdotal, and in Georgia.)

1984? You mean a culture of constant war and a perpetual police state? I wasn't going to compare that to modern American conservatives, Doc ... but you do have a point.

Mad Max and 1984 ... conservative paradises glorified in the mainstream media.

Thanks for the tip!

I know how you feel, my husband and I didn't started well off we also had many times when we had to count pennies to be able to keep gas in the car.

But as we got older and ecountered better opportunities we work hard for what we have now and what we have accomplished, is was never a free give away that we got from anybody including the government and tax payers.

But now that we are adults and getting ready to retirement we see how we have been robbed blind because our own personal success to get to the point we are in life now.

Why should I or anybody else should be ashamed to be successful? why should we be entitle to pay for those that would never be because of their choices.

My son and daughter had worked hard to also get to the place in life that they could be comfortable too, nobody gave them any thing free and they expected none either.

We all have choices, is not excuse, that is how I see it.

Mad Max can't be a libertarian dream--because it has nothing to do with individuals making voluntary agreements under principles of enlightened self interest and free markets. It's more what the left would do in similar circumstances--have a cult of personality that would control every aspect of one's life under threat.

Orwell wrote 1984 to be a criticism of the Soviet Union, with thought police and politically correct speech included. Of course 1984 is the leftist's wet dream. Heck, we see a lot of it right now--"new speak" as a form of cultural Marxism, cult of personality, "two minutes hate" for those that do not tow the politically correct line, getting everyone dependent on government for everything from their daily rations to healthcare. 1984 is the pinnacle of what the Pelosis and Obamas and Clintons and Sanders of the world want for us.

Forward, comrade, forward!

That group is the one that is growing in this nation incredibly, is call the working poor, this are those that once were able to feed a family until the government many policies has rob them of their future, many of these people used to be part of the lower end of the middle class.

Believe or now is many people in professional fields that are now in this category, having to take menial jobs because they could never stand to be unemployed.

Actually I seem more demonization of those that works and pay their dues (taxes this days) than those that do not, because everytime a working person complain how the government is robbing them of their hard earned dollars to pay for the ones that are in the receiving end, they get booed for it.

I don't get a penny in assistance from the government so I am entitle and have the right to complain the most

The irony.

I disagree with your "many" I would say "some" is a better word to use.

100 million working age Americans are not working. The 6% unemployment does not account for that since they have dropped out the "looking for a job" unemployment group and that is where the 6% comes from. This means that almost all of these people have been unemployed for years and years as they are really not trying to do much to get a job, or gain skills for a job...

The group you are talking about is the group that was just making it 6 years ago and over the true failures of the last 6 years they can not afford the cost of living that they once were able to, and so they work their butts off and still they not have enough. We can blame both sides but the administration had many failure attempts as our wet behind the ears President "learned" his job by trial and error.

So the conclusion is yes we are costing everyone more taxes that get wasted in many ways, yes we need to provide more and more subsistence, yes subsistence living creates a large group that drops out of the work force in an endless cycle...

Are you kidding?

Mad Max ... no laws, no government, the way of the gun rules, social darwinism at its inevitable conclusion?

1984 ... Orwell wrote 1984 to be an example of STATE overreach. Conservatives are cool with all forms of STATE overreach and control when they are in power, they just scream about personal freedoms when they lose the election.

I'm by all of your definitions "a leftist" and I don't agree at all with anarchy, police states, totalitarianism, etc.

No "leftist" that I know does so. The only "leftists" that do are those imaginary ones in the ideological tirades of right-wing Republicans and Libertarians.

Neither Pelosi, nor Obama, nor either Clinton, nor Sanders has ever claimed or acted in the ways that you're claiming. If they have, please provide evidence other than "we all know it."

Sanders is a socialist. Nothing wrong with socialism mixed with capitalism ... you know ... the mixed economy of the United States for the last 80 years or so that made us a Superpower and such?

You got to be kidding. Other than where one can put one's plumbing, the left is all about more and more rules--environmental, speech, gun control.

If you don't feed wild animals they just kill each other to survive. The Republicans just think it should be the same for the poor. Is that really so stupid? Or is it just evil?

Nope, not kidding at all. And if you stop to think about it for a second, you'll know I'm right.

There is a distinction between "leftists" or "rightists" in government, and those of us in the general population.

Rightists have their chosen areas of State domination, as do leftists.

Environmental? You mean, like the EPA? That was created by Executive Order of that well-known Communist Richard Milhous Nixon?

Speech? You mean like the "free speech zones" that were brought to perfection under the George W. Bush Administration?

Gun control? You mean like Ronald Reagan and the Mulford Act in California? Or the national Brady Act that he supported?

I'm not seeing your point.

Uh ... what have we gotten from it? The great and powerful country that you and I both grew up in and benefited from? The world's strongest economy for decades? The government that defeated Communism?

Oh, I don't know Marg ... what did we get from it?

Brady bill, the culture of political correctness, HUD, the income tax (Wilson, a democrat and progressive) , prohibition--inside every liberal is a totalitarian waiting to get out--wanting to tell us what to eat and what to drive and what to say and what to watch and what to wear and what to own--everything except for sex.

you raise 2 good points

First, we are animals. It is hubris to believe different. We may be unique in the animal kingdom...but we are still animals.

But even greater....class warfare among the poor tends to be far more dog eat dog than among the upper class.

Wait--what? I thought those were bad things? I though Reagan was selfish and evil--now you laud him for defeating Communism? We've got a "great and powerful country" I thought it was all ruined by Republithugs?
